    Job Summary

    The Physician Assistant (PA) is assigned to the department of Head and Neck Medical Oncology. In collaboration with the supervising physician and the administrative supervisor, the PA cares for patients receiving treatment for head and neck cancers. The PA provides clinical guidance for patients receiving systemic therapy for head and neck malignancies including management of treatment toxicities, management of oncologic emergencies, symptom management, care coordination, assistance with triage, and other duties as assigned.

    Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

    For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

    Department Description

    The UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center is an accredited National Cancer Institute Comprehensive Cancer Center. The NCI-Designation recognizes the scientific leadership, resources, and the depth and breadth of the research in basic, clinical and population science. As a Comprehensive Cancer Center, we demonstrate the added depth and breadth of research as well as substantial transdisciplinary research that bridges these scientific areas. Clinical services encompass adult and pediatric tumors across three campuses as well as regional satellite locations. The clinical cancer program is one of the largest clinical services at UCSF Medical Center and encompasses roughly 230 non-physician FTEs, 100+ cost center, and dozens of grant and philanthropic funding sources. At the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center we are truly pioneering care and leaders in all areas of cancer clinical care and research.     Required Qualifications

    Physician Assistant

    • Minimum one - two (1-2) years' experience as a Physician Assistant.
    • Possess the skills, knowledge, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the assigned position.
    • Must be able to document competent performance of the skills required to perform in the role described.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication, professional, computer and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with a diverse professional and patient population.
    • Ability to satisfactorily perform job duties as defined in the job duties/ functions.
    • Demonstrated excellence in the following areas: clinical practice, communication, clinical case management, leadership/problem identification/resolution, and teaching.
    Sr. Physician Assistant
    • Five (5) years of recent experience as a Physician Assistant.
    • Possess the skills, knowledge, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the assigned position.
    • Must be able to document competent performance of the skills required to perform in the role described.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication, professional, computer and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with a diverse professional and patient population.
    • Ability to satisfactorily perform job duties as defined in the job duties/ functions.
    • Demonstrated excellence in the following areas: clinical practice, communication, clinical case management, leadership/problem identification/resolution, and teaching.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Minimum three (3) years of recent experience as a Physician Assistant working in oncology.
    • Recent experience working with clinical trials patients.
    • Experience working in an academic medical center.
    • Experience working with Head and Neck Medical Oncology patients.

    License/Certification

    • Must hold an active and current California Physician Assistant License (PA).
    • California driver's license (CDL) if required for position.
    • Must hold current national board certification by first day of work and maintain.
    • Must hold an active and transferable DEA license to California and have evidence of transfer by 90th day of clinical practice. (It is the responsibility of the employee to transfer their DEA license to their new place of employment if from out of state, via online DEA portal and provide evidence of transfer).
    • Must have completed an AAPA recognized graduate master's degree program as a physician assistant.
    • Must have submitted enrollment with CMS Medicare and Medicaid through the credentialing process by first clinical day.
    • Must hold current AHA BLS as minimum requirement.
    UCSF Medical Center and Campus requires certain healthcare providers to be credentialed. In most cases this is done through its Office of Medical Affairs & Governance (OMAG) prior to the first working day. Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 60-90 days but can vary.
