The State of Connecticut Department of Transportation CTDOT is accepting applications for a Transportation Engineer position within the Division of Traffic Engineering in Newington CT.This position involves leading complex projects enhancing safety capacity and efficiency in Connecticuts transportation system including managing coordinates traffic designs studies investigations on state roadways addressing roadway multi modal challenges reducing crashes by researching applying innovative solutions such as modern roadway configurations traffic signals signs pavement markings improving safety saving lives
Key responsibilities include overseeing lower level engineers performing complex design work designing foundations bridges making field inspections analyzing plans estimates reviewing reports preparing recommendations acting as liaison between towns state consulting engineer repair bridges conducting research materials construction methods maintenance activities reviewing storm sewer culvert designs computations prepared by Design division contracting engineers watersheds less than acres providing technical advice pollution control measures unusual storm sewer designs recommending revisions improve drainage design preparing computations attending field reviews new highway projects laboratory work soil samples determination void ratio water content specific gravity grain size distribution plasticity limits permeability optimum moisture content confined unconfined compressive strength direct shear consolidation preparing detailed geotechnical reports recommendations performing hydrographic analysis flood routing retention basin designs serving expert witness court cases reviewing drainage design major permit applications shopping centers housing developments assisting preparation updating Drainage Manual coordinating preliminary surveys planning engineering requirements construction maintenance electrical installations state utilities coordinating work design engineers consulting engineers contract documents revising replacing equipment associated highway lighting traffic lights drawbridges highway buildings acting consultant district forces other state agencies overseeing consultant engineers preparation plans specifications estimates bridges structural improvement reconstruction highways transportation facilities recommending treatment alignment grade surface drainage features making project reports analyzing comparative routes economy feasibility utility overseeing activities review processing major traffic generator studies surveys design research reviewing reports subordinates preparing final reports recommendations applying to
