Job Opportunity: School-Based American Sign Language Interpreter (Contract)

Location: Oakland, California

Are you a skilled American Sign Language Interpreter seeking an exciting contract opportunity in Oakland, California, for the upcoming school year? Soliant and its affiliates are proud to partner with districts in the area to provide students with the services they need for a successful future. We are currently hiring a dedicated ASL Interpreter to join our team.

Responsibilities:

• Provide interpretation and translation services for students who are deaf or hard of hearing in educational settings.
• Facilitate communication between students, teachers, staff, and other stakeholders using American Sign Language.
• Assist with classroom instruction, discussions, presentations, and extracurricular activities as needed.
• Ensure accessibility and equal participation for students with hearing impairments in all aspects of the school environment.
• Collaborate with educators and other professionals to support students' academic and social-emotional development.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in American Sign Language Interpreting or a related field.
• Certification as an Educational Interpreter through the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or equivalent credential.
• At least one year of recent experience working as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings.
• Proficiency in American Sign Language and English, including understanding of deaf culture and communication preferences.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish rapport with students and colleagues.
• Flexibility, adaptability, and sensitivity to the needs of students with hearing impairments.
