    Come build and maintain the world's computer as a member of the Microsoft Capacity Infrastructure Services team in Azure.

    The team ensures new servers are brought online (capacity buildout) to enable Azure customers to leverage the latest offerings, see the illusion of infinite capacity, and grow the Azure business efficiently at hyperscale.


    As a Software Engineer, you'll work with a breadth of partners across Microsoft including developers in service teams, hardware engineers, datacenter technicians, supply chain managers, and business leaders to rapidly debug and resolve issues delaying this carefully orchestrated buildout sequence.

    You'll drive continuous improvements with these teams to prevent repeats and address common classes of issues across the Azure software stack through design reviews and problem management.


    This opportunity will enable a Service Engineer II to learn unparalleled system-wide knowledge of how the Azure cloud is built and maintained.

    The contacts you make with experts will enable you to deep dive on services and new technologies and partner for improvements.

    You'll be stretched to automate mitigations tactically and strategically analyze data to identify problem areas for driving prioritization.

    Responsibilities

    Drives cross team automation efforts to maintain the health of our storage clusters.
    Troubleshooting complex automation scenarios.
    Leverage PowerShell and other means to quickly automate processes and manual tasks.
    Collaborates with Engineering and PM counterparts to translate customer, business/technical requirements into components of a service architecture, and operability
    Be available for an on-call rotation with the ability to troubleshoot and communicate outside of normal business hours.
    Respond and resolve emergent issues, act as a crisis manager and subsequently follow through to prevent problem recurrence using a Problem Management approach
    Creates and implements standards and best practices, drives adoption across partner teams and external hardware vendors.
    Measurably improve service maturity and scalability through process improvement and root cause analysis.

    Qualifications


    Required/Minimum Qualfiications:
    Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 2+ years technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, service engineering, or systems engineering
    OR equivalent experience.

    Security Clearance Requirements:
    Candidates must be able to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role.

    These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

    The successful candidate must have an active U.S.

    Government Top Secret Clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) based on a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) with Polygraph.

    Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. Failure to maintain or obtain the appropriate U.S. Government clearance and/or customer screening requirements may result in employment action up to and including termination.

    Clearance Verification:
    This position requires successful verification of the stated security clearance to meet federal government customer requirements. You will be asked to provide clearance verification information prior to an offer of employment.

    Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

    This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.


    Citizenship & Citizenship Verification:
    This position requires verification of U.S. citizenship due to citizenship-based legal restrictions.

    Specifically, this position supports United States federal, state, and/or local United States government agency customer and is subject to certain citizenship-based restrictions where required or permitted by applicable law.

    To meet this legal requirement, citizenship will be verified via a valid passport, or other approved documents, or verified US government Clearance

    Preferred/Additional Qualifications

    Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 5+ years technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, service engineering, or systems engineering
    OR equivalent experience.
    Experience with managing reliability of mission critical workloads which requires coordinating with number of partners and teams
    5+ years of hands-on experience with designing or operating large-scale cloud service
    5+ years of industry experience with datacenter integration
    5+ years of programming experience with PowerShell, Python, C#, etc
    Experience administering Windows Server Hyper-V, storage, networking, and security capabilities

    Service Engineering IC- The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,300 - $182,600 per year.

    There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $120,900 - $198,600 per year.
