Learn to teach others to manage the range safely
The Coyote Point Rifle and Pistol Club requires all members of all types to demonstrate proof of current range safety officer certification.
The Club is holding a number of NRA Range safety officer courses in order to allow members to meet this requirement.
This course is above and beyond the requirement for the club. This class certifies students that successfully complete the course to be able to teach the basic RSO class.Note that this class
does not include the basic class.
Any student in this course will either need to sign up and successfully complete basic a RSO class with us or another instructor prior to this weekend, or provide proof of RSO certification by email to That said, you will have an easier time passing this course if you attend all days in person.
The material will be more fresh in your mind as you make your presentations if you have taken it recently.
Please come to the BIT day on Sunday January 15 even if you are exempt to pick up your class packet.
You are welcome to come at any time during the day to pick it up. We will be teaching from 10am until between 3-6 PM, depending on questions from the students.This class is over two days:
Day 1 (Sunday June 2nd @10am- ~6PM @ Coyote Point): Basic Instructor Training.
Required of anyone who has not taken it in the past 2 years and wishes to be certified as a CRSO.
If you have completed BIT in the past 2 years and can provide documentation of this then you can be exempt from this day.
We will be handing out the CRSO day student packets on this day.Day 2 (Saturday June 8 @10am – 6PM @Coyote Point): Chief Range Safety Officer Training. Candidates will be expected to teach portions of the Basic Range Safety officer course. Assignments will be given either by email or in person at the end of the day Saturday.
This course teaches the knowledge, skills, and attitude needed to run the basic duties a Range Safety Officer performs.
It provides a thorough introduction to teaching:
the role of Range Safety Officers (RSOs); range Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); range safety briefings; range inspections and rules; emergency procedures; and how to clear firearm stoppages and correct malfunctions.
Simply arriving at the class does not guarantee that you pass the course.Expectations of students in order to pass:
You must participate in the entire course and pass the written examination with 90% or above
You must display the knowledge, skills, and attitude as required in the NRA national curriculum in order to be a chief range safety officer
Students are required to bring the following materials to class:
Make sure you know your NRA number. You will need it in class.
Range appropriate clothing
Pens/Pencil/paper for notes, filling out forms, and taking the test
A laptop or other electronic device you can use to view the Powerpoint slide deck. (July 23rd only)
Please bring a packed lunch. We won't have time to go off-site for lunch.
There is no live fire in the class, however this is an active range. Please bring hearing protection in case anyone else is using the range that day.
Note:
We are required to report your name, address, phone number, email address, NRA membership number, date of birth, and gender to the NRA in order to give you credit for the class.
The course credit is assigned to your NRA membership number, so please register here with *exactly* the same name and address the NRA has on file for you.
