    POSITION SUMMARY:


    The Assistant Operator supports the set up and operation of press/turret and support equipment; Supports preparation of work zone and components before setups; Supports loading and unloading of components during setup; Obtains cardboard packaging, forms boxes, prints labels, packs finished material into boxes, and seals entire unit when finished.


    RESPONSIBILITIES
    Follows all EHS policies, practices, and procedures
    Supports Continuous Improvement (CI) tasks, projects, and initiatives
    Identifies and loads raw materials (PS Stock, Paper, Boxes, Cores)
    Identifies and unloads finished goods
    Builds & labels boxes and then packs and seals boxes
    Moves pallets, stacks them, and shrink wraps in preparation for shipment
    Operates bagger and tape machine
    Operates fan folder or sheeter
    Mount printing plates onto cylinders
    Mount dies onto magnetic cylinders
    Assemble components to be put on prep carts to expedite setup
    Select, identify, insert, and remove aniloxes
    Properly clean & store aniloxes
    Measure and adjust ink pH and viscosity, along with color
    Read and understand copy folder and supporting documentation
    Insert and remove print cylinders into presses or shafts into turrets
    Complete all quality related paperwork
    Monitors quality, alerts coworkers and supervisor, and makes adjustments as needed
    Cover a running machine during breaks or extended gaps during the day
    Directly supports the setup of the press and the turret/sheeter/folder
    Maintains excellent housekeeping in work area
    Follow all documented and accepted company, plant and department policies and procedures
    Reports any and all uncontrolled hazards, injuries, and near misses to shift supervisor
    Suggests and participates in safety activities such as training, hazard identification, safety observations, job safety analyses, audits, inspections, and safety committee
    Collect and record production data
    Reworks materials as needed
    Contributes to a team effort by proactively assisting internal contacts.
    Attend training programs to develop relevant knowledge, techniques and skills.
    Performs other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    Manufacturing experience preferred
    High School Diploma or GED
    Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
    Basic computer and math skills
    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
    Ability to read scale within 1/64
    Ability to enter data legibly and accurately into forms as well as computers
    Ability to read, write, interpret, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, memos. Examples include safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and operating manuals
    Ability to read and understand work orders and ask questions
    Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and all levels of management
    Ability to work as a team with others to meet business requirements
    Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance

    Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions


    Regular exposure to manufacturing environment with one or more unpleasant hazardous conditions including but not limited to exposure to dust, dirt, high noise levels, chemicals more than 50% of the work time.

    Ability to lift products up to 50 lbs multiple times per day
    Ability to repetitively lift 25 lbs frequently
    Ability to work in a standing position for long periods of time
    Other physical demands include climbing, crouching, bending, reaching, stooping, etc.
    Continuous contact with other people requiring communications via face-to-face, orally by telephone and various written methodologies

    Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or 20lbs of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.


    Standing:
    Remaining upright on the feet, particularly for sustained periods of time

    Walking:

    Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.


    Talking:

    Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; those activities where detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed to others accurately, loudly, or quickly.


    Hearing:

    Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and making fine discriminations in sound.


    Visual Acuity:

    Able to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
