    Who is Purpose Built Schools Atlanta?

    Purpose Built Schools, in partnership with Atlanta Public Schools (APS), operates three neighborhood schools in south Atlanta: Slater Elementary School, Price Middle School and Carver STEAM Academy (high school). Purpose Built Schools works to deliver outstanding results for students and the surrounding communities through high-quality instruction, intentional enrichment opportunities and a strategic approach to serving families' needs beyond the school walls.     Job description:

    The Long Term Sub provides face-to-face instruction with students in school building ensuring continuity of appropriate learning during the absence of permanent educators or in other instructional need for the school, such as small group intervention. Substitutes Teachers perform related duties in lieu of the absent educator, or in a class that does not have an assigned educator.

    Responsibilities include:

    Effective classroom instruction:

    1. Reports in person to the school building to provide face-to-face instruction to students.
    2. Responsive to changing school instructional needs.
    3. Provides classroom instruction to students as outlined in lesson plans.
    4. Creates a classroom that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
    5. Maintains a safe and orderly environment.
    6. Maintains established routine of the school and classroom procedures in which assigned.
    7. Maintains a professional appearance.
    8. Remains at school the entire school day, unless otherwise instructed to leave by building principal.
    9. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
    10. Maintains reasonable rules of conduct which encourage self-discipline and responsibility.
    11. Communicates effectively with parents as needed.
    12. Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and times designated.
    13. Monitors students in the classroom, at lunch and throughout the school by maintaining order and discipline.
    14. Perform duties, as assigned, with awareness policies.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Available for face-to-face instruction within the school building with students present.
    • Pass a GBI Criminal Background Check.
    • Valid Georgia Teacher or Paraprofessional Certificate.
    • Must relate well to students and inspire the love of learning.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to comprehend and follow directives.
    • Skilled in teaching diverse students.

    • Strength: to lift, push, pull and/or carry objects which weigh as much as 5 or more pounds on a frequent basis. Incumbent may be required to physically restrain parties involved in a conflict.
    • Environmental Requirements: encounter constant work interruptions; work cooperatively with others; work independently; work indoors.
    • Mental Requirements: read, write, understand, interpret and apply information at a moderately complex level essential for successful job performance; math skills at a high school proficiency level; judgement and the ability to process information quickly; learn quickly and follow verbal procedures and standards; give verbal instruction; rank tasks in order of importance; copy, compare, compile and coordinate information and records. Additional Work Conditions & Physical Abilities: Will require travel to multiple sites.
