    Lourdes University, College of Nursing is hiring for a Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing Faculty Position.

    The job description for this position is as followed:


    JOB SUMMARY:


    The faculty as a whole is the governing body for instruction and service for total institutional concerns and gives recommendations to the administration.


    Faculty means "a registered nurse who meets the faculty requirements set forth in rule of the Ohio Administrative Code (OAC) for registered nursing programs.


    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • The general responsibilities of a teaching faculty member are described in the Lourdes University Faculty handbook which is updated prior to each academic year.
    • Nursing Faculty as defined by OAC and OAC
    • Plan and teach all courses containing nursing objectives, or direct the teaching of those courses provided by teaching assistants
    • Report to the Program Administrator(s)
    • Contribute to the evaluation and implementation of, or changes in program curriculum
    • Provide a syllabus to each nursing student
    • Direct and supervise the activities of a teaching assistant if utilized
    • Evaluate each nursing student's achievement and progress with input from the teaching assistant or preceptor
    • The specific responsibilities of a College of Nursing faculty member include:
    • Nursing Faculty Organization
    • Participates in departmental committees, faculty meetings, and workshops/in-services; takes minutes as requested.
    • Contributes to the development, evaluation, and revision of curricular materials utilizing the conceptual framework, the curriculum plan, and each faculty member's specialization in nursing.
    • Participates in identifying and making recommendations for ordering library and other media materials pertinent to the curriculum.
    • Contributes to the development and revision of student policies in relation to admission, evaluation, progression, and graduation.
    • Assists in the development of the College of Nursing strategic plan.
    • Acts in accord with professional ethical standards.
    • Serves on Ad Hoc Committees of the faculty as these become necessary.
    • Accepts leadership responsibilities within the University.
    • Participates as a member of two standing department committees in addition to GNA.
    • Maintains Lourdes e-mail correspondence during periods of time when not in office.
    • Teaching
    • Selects, plans, organizes, and implements learning experiences in assigned courses which will assist students to meet course and program objectives.
    • Integrates content from related course work into nursing content.
    • Collaborates with the Director of Prelicensure Clinical and Laboratory Education regarding clinical agency selection, scheduling, negotiation, and evaluation.
    • Collaborates with personnel in clinical agencies used for clinical experiences as provided in contractual agreements with these agencies.
    • Consistently model professional behavior.
    • Evaluates students based on course objectives, identifies strengths and areas needing improvement, and facilitates development of strategies for improvement including remediation (standardized testing, Academic Alerts, Student referrals for counseling/assistance regarding academic and non-academic matters).
    • Participates in channels of communication designed to provide student opportunity to contribute to program development, implementations, evaluation, and revision.
    • Maintains records of course materials as directed (entering grades, maintains records as required for accreditation electronically or in other formats as directed, post syllabus at beginning of semester and updated addendums at the end of the semester- reporting incompletes to appropriate committees, complete course report).
    • Provides leadership and organizational accountability as assigned.
    • Prepares and submits University required documents.
    • Communicates textbooks and supplies needs to appropriate department.
    • Prepare course proposals for the program curriculum committees as appropriate if changes are planned.
    • Following OBN guidelines arrange for clinical preceptors, completion of appropriate preceptor and student paperwork, and assure that copies of course learning objectives are provided to course preceptors.
    • Assure timely communication with clinical agencies regarding student scheduling, course changes and thank you notes.
    • Maintain timely communication with the Director of Prelicensure Clinical and Laboratory Education and Coordinator of the Nursing Learning Lab regarding significant events and critical incidents related to students, faculty and, clinical agencies.
    • Provide for secure storage of student exams and other student materials.
    • Provide artifacts of student work each semester as directed. Work should be cleaned of all student identifying data, or an appropriate release should be signed and on file. These papers are used for accreditation purposes.
    • Maintain a record of all course grades, complete course reports at semester end, and other activities as requested (see End of Semester Task list).
    • In collaboration with all semester faculty, assure integration of didactic course content with clinical site and lab experiences within a given semester.
    • Assist in planning and implementing staff development programs for health care staff at designated clinical sites as needed.
    • Maintains five posted office hourse per week. During the period of advising for class registration, a more extensive advising schedule is available to advisees.
    • Expectations to be on campus as least four days per week. "On campus" may be defined as electronically available to students and/or colleagues if the faculty member is primarily teaching online and/or off site.
    • Supervisory duties for a department or program will be negotiatd with the program director, dean, and/or Provost.
    • Service to University
    • Participates in recruitment, registration and advising activities of the College of Nursing and University. This will include summer events as needed.
    • Full Time Faculty member participates in a minimum of one university committee after one academic year of employment.
    • Participates in professional and community activities.
    Participation in the following University events is expected of all faculty members:


    • Convocation
    • Opening and closing Community days
    • All-campus meetings
    • Campus Awards Ceremony
    • Commencement Exercises, Baccalaureate Mass recommended
    • Nursing Pinning Ceremony
    • All-faculty meetings
    • Committee meetings
    • College meetings
    • Department meetings
    • Scholarship
    • Maintains competence in nursing area of specialization.
    • Participates in opportunities to improve and update knowledge of teaching content and teaching skills.
    • Maintains current knowledge of activities and issues related to nursing education and the profession.
    • Participates in scholarly, grant and/or research activities within the University and/or community.
    • Engage in scholarhips, relative to discipline, academic rank and the courses taught following Ernest L. Boyers' scholarship categories.

    RESPONSIBILITES OF FACULTY IN A CLINICAL SETTING


    Per Ohio Administrative Code , the Faculty is responsible for planning the student's clinical experience and for evaluating the student's performance.

    Clinical experiences are assigned by faculty based on course objectives and student learning needs. Faculty shall supervise student practice by providing guidance, direction, and support appropriate to the clinical situation.


    The faculty member shall:

    • Establish the clinical objectives or outcomes within the framework of the course in which the student is enrolled
    • Communicate the clinical objectives to the students, teaching assistant or preceptor and the staff at the clinical site
    • Provide orientation of each student to the clinical site, including introduction of staff
    • Make assignments, in conjunction with the teaching assistant or preceptor, if utilized, for the students' experience, consistent with the specific objectives or outcomes of the course in which the student is enrolled
    • Provide supervision in conjunction with chapter of the Ohio Administrative Code.
    • Evaluate the student's experience, achievement, and progress in relation to the clinical objectives or outcomes with input from the teaching assistant or preceptor if utilized
    • The faculty may assign observational experiences as appropriate to meet course objectives
    Requirements


    QUALIFICATIONS:
    Qualifications of a faculty member teaching a course as defined in rule of the Ohio Administrative Code:

    a. Completion of an approved registered nursing education program in jurisdiction as defined in the Administrative Code

    b. Experience for at least two years in the practice of nursing as a registered nurse

    c. A master's degree

    d.

    If does not possess a Bachelor of Science in nursing degree, the master's, or other academic degree, including but not limited to Ph.

    D. shall be in nursing

    e. Current, valid licensure as a registered nurse in Ohio.


    • Doctoral degree preferred or MSN with content expertise required for graduate faculty status.
    • One year teaching experience in a pre-licensure program of nursing preferred.
    • Certification desirable.
    Maintains current College of Nursing Health and Professional Requirements.
