    Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

    Founded in 1924, the Odum Institute for Research in Social Science provides training, consultation, and research support services to faculty, staff, and students across the UNC-Chapel Hill campus and beyond.

    Odum expands Carolina's impact by providing education and support for planning, implementing, and disseminating research.

    We work to advance rigorous and reproducible research across the data, social and health sciences, while building collaborative, trans-disciplinary research networks.

    Positioned in the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, the Institute is funded through state/university appropriations and grants/contracts led by Institute staff.


    Position Summary
    Odum Institute is looking for a temporary status Marketing Communications Specialist. This person will provide crucial support to Odum institute's marketing department in many ways.

    This position will write copy for social media (LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook) and newsletter marketing materials, design graphics, and assist with other material development such as photography, video, and audio editing.

    Additionally, this role will help with collecting user data from various channels to facilitate analysis of marketing efforts. The assistant will also take on the role of helping to maintain current information on Odum's website.


    Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
    High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.


    Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

    • Skills in both hand and computer illustration and ability to storyboard complex ideas.
    • Experience with the Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.
    • Experience with the WordPress platform.
    • Experience in photography and videography with abilities in short-form storytelling.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills with a high level of expertise in Microsoft Office environments.
    • Ability to learn fast with executing multi-platform marketing campaigns.
    • Ability to attend on-campus events for media purposes (i.e., live feeds and photos for social media).

    Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

    • Experience with Adobe Premiere Pro a plus.
