Staff/Principal Mechanical Design Engineer - Berkeley, United States - Atomic Machines Inc.

    Default job background
    Description
Atomic Machines is on Earth to radically advance humanity's command over matter.

Our mission is real-time bits-to-atoms manufacturing of anything at any scale, and to that end, we're developing an entirely new digital micro-device manufacturing platform that is going to redefine how things are made, and do so while simultaneously enabling the rapid creation at any scale of new classes of machines - think medical micro-robotics, true lab-on-chip microfluidics, tunable antennas, ultrafast high-power and high-frequency RF switching devices and many more.

The first device we are building with our platform has exceptional large-scale product/market fit and commercial traction, and we are pushing hard to share it with the world.

Our offices are in Berkeley and Santa Clara, California.

    About the role:
We are seeking a seasoned Mechanical Design Engineer to join our growing team. This individual will be an expert in designing and building complex dynamic mechanical precision systems.

They will contribute to the overall design of our novel robotic manufacturing platform, as well as own significant subsystems from the beginning of the product life cycle such as thin film deposition, fluid dispense, pick and place, and more.

    What you'll do:
Own and lead development and delivery of a complex robotic manufacturing subsystem.

Work cross-functionally on complex sub-systems of our automated fabrication platform incorporating technologies such as physical vapor deposition, chemical vapor deposition, micro-fluidics, material handling, laser micromachining, lamination, conveyance systems, and more.

Drive your work to completion with fabrication and assembly efforts leveraging our in-house lab and machine shop.

Work in a cross-functional team of highly experienced mechanical, software, electrical, process and materials engineering peers to achieve your objectives.

Develop compelling product architectures that are robust and extensible.

    What you'll need:
7+ years of experience designing dynamic mechanical precision systems including actuators and motors.
At least one successful product life cycle that you've stewarded from conception to successful market launch.
Demonstrated experience developing products from a clean sheet.
Solid command of engineering fundamentals, design principles, and detailed drawing.
Strong creativity, the ability to take and manage technical risks, and lead by influencing.
Proven track record of design leadership for product development.
Hands-on experience designing, building, and validating automated mechanical systems.

Demonstrated knowledge of rapid prototyping and scale production manufacturing processes (including machining, sheet metal, injection molding, etc.).Comfortable with all phases of product development lifecycle including design, implementation, debug, verification & validation, qualification, and transfer to manufacturing.

Excellent written & verbal communication and presentation skills.
Proven experience and proficiency using CAD to design and document both large and small parts and assemblies.
Minimum B.S. (Mechanical Engineering or other related Engineering field equivalent).

    Bonus Points For:
Experience with design of physical vapor deposition systems (sputtering, thermal evaporation, electron beam evaporation).Experience with high vacuum system design.
Experience with laser and optical systems.$160,000 - $240,000 a yearThe compensation for this position includes equity and benefits.#J-18808-Ljbffr
