    PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

    The qualified individual will be responsible for the following:

    Obtaining and maintaining an NRC license for operation of the facility.

    Assigned on a rotating shift basis, acting under prescribed rules and approved practices, to observe, inspect and as instructed operate station equipment to prepare equipment for service and for maintenance to test equipment for proper operation to take necessary action in emergencies and to perform related work as assigned.

    Specifically tied to NRC regulations includes the control of reactivity systems that affect power levels of the plant.

    Monitoring gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine/system are working properly.

    Controlling operations of equipment or systems remotely from main control room center. Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work-related documents, licenses Critical Thinking, using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.

    Assisting Senior Reactor Operators for finding and evaluating Information to determine compliance with required standards  Using relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards and provide information to required parties. Gathering Information, observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources. Identifying Objects, Actions, and Events identifying information by categorizing, estimating, recognizing differences or similarities, and detecting changes in circumstances or events. Monitoring Processes, Materials, or Surroundings

    Monitoring and reviewing information from materials, events, or the environment, to detect or assess problems. Documenting/Recording Information

    Entering, transcribing, recording, storing, or maintaining information in written or electronic form.

    PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

    • Observe, inspect, and as instructed, operate such generating station auxiliary equipment as pumps, fans, air compressors, and heat exchangers.
    • Inspect and make necessary adjustment on gland seal pressures on main turbine generator units.
    • Make routine checks of various equipment related to transfer of water and steam.
    • Inspect and reset relays in auxiliary power centers in the event of automatic trip-out of any auxiliary equipment.
    • Operate auxiliary equipment manually when remote control equipment is not connected to the main control panel, or during abnormal conditions.
    • Assist as required in performing initial troubleshooting work on control circuit, auxiliary switches, tripping devices on circuit breakers, and level controllers.
    • Perform manual switching in auxiliary power centers for all routine maintenance or emergency repairs to electrical equipment.
    • Check the operation of feed water heaters and other secondary plant equipment such as station heating, ventilating and cooling systems.
    • Inspect auxiliary power transformers, switchgear, and batteries by checking the temperature of equipment, oil levels in transformers, acid levels in batteries and to record specific gravity readings and charge batteries as required.
    • Operate the water treatment system, involving such work as adjusting feed of chemical feed pumps, preparing chemicals for feed tanks and make-up pretreatment, checking levels in storage tanks, adjusting rates of flow, recording of chemicals used and water meter readings, and making field checks on water samples as assigned.
    • Operate oil cleaning and transfer equipment, including checking all levels in reservoirs, back flushing oil coolers, and periodically taking oil samples.
    • Inspect brushes on main generator field rings on various motor generator sets and to check exciter bearings.
    • Replace gas cylinders (e.g. hydrogen, nitrogen) on headers to check the operation of the hydrogen unit gas dryer.
    • Maintain cleanliness of equipment and working area.
    • Assist in controlling the operation of reactor-turbine generator units by receiving and executing orders from station operators, observing control instruments, and reading meters.
    • Observe, inspect and operate reactor, turbine and other station equipment outside of the control room (including starting, stopping and preparing equipment for maintenance).
    • Perform electrical operating and switching outside the control room, such as operating disconnects, circuit breakers, and grounding buses and to take circuits and equipment in and out of service.
    • Instruct and train, and to coordinate the work of others.
    • Other assigned duties may include activities in the field outside the main control room:

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Candidates must possess at least a High School Diploma or equivalent.
    • Candidates with a college degree will need to provide transcripts.
    • Candidates with applicable military experience (e.g., Navy Nuclear) will need to provide DD214 (long form) and training history.
    • Candidates must pass the Plant Operator Selection System (POSS) examination and Basic Math and Science Test (BMST) [administered by the Talent Acquisition Department].
    • Candidates must meet the power plant experience requirements of ACAD which include:
      • 6 months performing plant operational duties as a non-licensed operator on-site at the Constellation nuclear power plant for which you are applying as an RO (qualified for all power block and safety system operational duties). Must have 18 months total Power Plant experience OR
      • 12 months experience performing plant operational duties as a qualified non-licensed operator at a comparable nuclear facility or 18 months at a noncomparable nuclear facility (qualified for all power block and safety system operational duties). Comparable is PWR to PWR or BWR to BWR, and non-comparable is PWR to BWR or BWR to PWR. Must have 18 months total Power Plant experience OR
      •  6 months performing plant operational duties as an ACTIVE licensed reactor operator at a comparable nuclear facility or 12 months experience at a non-comparable commercial power reactor operator facility. Comparable is PWR to PWR or BWR to BWR, and non-comparable is PWR to BWR or BWR to PWR. Must have 18 months total Power Plant experience OR
      •  18 months in position equivalent to the reactor operator position at a miliary Navy Reactor (qualified to manipulate or direct the manipulation of control rods. The equivalent positions are Reactor Operator, Engineering Officer of the Watch / Propulsion Plant Watch Officer, Engineering Watch Supervisor / Propulsion Plant Watch Supervisor OR
      •  27 months of experience performed in a non-nuclear power production plant during preoperational, startup testing or operational activities. Other acceptable experience includes plant design, construction, technical support, operation, maintenance, or training instruction with respect to petrochemical similar process plants or steam propulsion plants.
    • Candidates must successfully complete a License Medical Screening and Fire Brigade Screening
    • Candidates must satisfactorily complete a psychological screening.
    • Candidates must qualify for site unescorted access.
