    Description

    The Parkview 3nursing unit at Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital is a 36-bedmedical-surgical unit focusing primarily on the post-operativepatient. Our surgical patient population is comprised oforthopaedic, spine, low-risk bariatric, urology, vascular,colorectal and general surgery. Patients can rest well in theirprivate rooms overlooking a park setting, and know their team –which is comprised of residents, physician's assistants, nursepractitioners as well as the attending physician – are allavailable, if needed,24/7.

    The purposeof this position is to harness the skills of an experienced RNHospital who recently retired but has a desire to transferknowledge to newer nurses within the organization. Provides directnursing care in accordance with established policies, proceduresand protocols of the healthcareorganization.

    Responsibilities:

    • Providescoaching, teaching and educational material asappropriate.
    • Provides assessments and audits ofdaily practice.
    • Assesses and coordinatespatient's discharge planning needs with members of the healthcareteam.
    • Assesses educational needs of the patientand significant others considering cultural issues and otherspecial concerns.
    • Provides direct nursing carein accordance with established policies, procedures and protocolsof the healthcare organization. Implements and monitors patientcare plans.
    • Monitors, records and communicatespatient condition as appropriate.
    • Monitors anddocuments patient's condition and effectiveness and timeliness ofcare and/or interventions.
    • Evaluates, updatesand revises plan of care to facilitate achievement of planned andexpected outcomes.
    • Administers prescribedmedications and treatments in accordance with approved nursingprotocol.
    • Notes and carries out physician andnursing orders.
    • Validates and documents patientand family understanding of teaching.
    • Maintainsprofessional growth and development through ongoing formal andinformal education and clinical nursingstudy.
    • Other duties asassigned.

    Education:

    • Graduatefrom an accredited school of professionalnursing.
    • BSNpreferred.

    Certifications:

    • Currentstate licensure as Registered Nurse (RN).
    • Proofof Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association(AHA) must be presented upon hire.
    • If in aCritical Care area an Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) throughAmerican Heart Association (AHA) Certification isrequired.
    • Upon hire RNs in Children's Hospitaland Children's Hospital for Rehabilitation will achieve andmaintain Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through AmericanHeart Association (AHA) with the exception of the NeonatalIntensive Care Unit RNs who must achieve and maintain NeonatalResuscitation Program (NRP) through American Heart Association(AHA) provider status and RNs in the Special Delivery Unit, whomust achieve and maintain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)through American Heart Association (AHA).
    • ONSChemo/Bio course complete upon hire if employed on units inpatientand/or outpatient where chemo isadministered.
    • If in an Adult/Combined EDs, ACLSupon hire in the Emergency Department.
    • If in anED, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through American HeartAssociation (AHA) upon hire in the EmergencyDepartment.
    • In Dedicated Trauma Centers, TraumaNursing Core Course (TNCC - adult) or Emergency Nurse PediatricCourse (ENPC - pediatric) upon hire in the EmergencyDepartment.

    Competencies(Complexity ofWork):

    • Requirescritical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to workwith minimal supervision.
    • Must be able to workin a stressful environment and take appropriateaction.

    WorkExperience:

    • Minimumof 3 years' experience in a RN Hospital position at the ClevelandClinic immediately prior to retirement.
    • Currentdemonstrated clinical competence.
    • Strongcommunication and interpersonalskills.

    PhysicalRequirements:

    • Requiresstanding and walking for periods of time.
    • Mayrequire full range of body motion including handling and liftingpatient, manual and finger dexterity and eye-handcoordination.
    • Requires corrected vision andhearing to normal range.
    • Possible exposure tocommunicable diseases and/or bodyfluids.
    • Medium Work – May include exerting 20to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of forcefrequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of forceconstantly to move objects.
    • Physical Demandrequirements are in excess of those for LightWork.

    PersonalProtectiveEquipment:

    • FollowsStandard Precautions using personal protective equipment asrequired.
