Senior Application Engineer – Gas Springs

Job Summary:

This position will be located in Sterling Heights, MI. The Application Engineer will develop application solutions and associated deliverables for meeting customer requirements, market share objectives and profitability goals in the appointed customer base. Technical expertise with a can do attitude is a must for this position.

Essential Job Functions:

• Technical representative for Stabilus NA Automotive business unit with responsibility to ensure application development deliverables meet or exceed customer and internal requirements.
• Take full ownership to resolve technical problems with solutions as a subject matter expert.
• Plan and execute application development milestones to develop and supply technical deliverables according to customer and internal timing requirements STAB3P Lead
• Responsible to customer long-term relationship management
• Lead customer technical reviews
• Liaison between global SME's and SBA Team.
• Introduce fully verified products which were designed for manufacture into the P2 organization.
• Develop application and product solutions in support of new business growth.
• Develop application and product solutions to minimize product cost and maximize profitability.
• Drive improvement to the application development process to maximize organizational efficiency and flexibility.
• Drive improvement to application development methods, standards, and analytical tools to ensure accuracy of deliverables.
• Follow the IATF 16949 procedures in developing and meeting customer deliverable requirements.
• Provide technical training to colleagues and customers.
• Resolve technical problems with solutions which address root cause and prevention of reoccurrence.
• Provide launch and manufacturing support to customer assembly facilities.

Education, Training, Certifications:

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

Experience:

• 5 - 7 years automotive product or application design experience.
• Experience working with a Tier 1 or OEM a plus.
• Demonstrated history performance in achieving business objectives while in technical positions.

Job Knowledge and Skills:

• High level of communication and presentation skills both verbal and written.
• Problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Capability with standard engineering tools and process such as DVP&R, FMEA, Statistics, APQP
• Strong academic engineering knowledge especially in the areas of statics, dynamics and thermodynamics.
• Strong computer skills, specifically MS Office. CAD and technical software skills are additional assets.

Working Condition:

• Normal office environment with the exception of sporadic testing at extreme conditions, which requires exposure to -30degC and 80degF for limited periods of time.
• Daily travel required to local customers, sporadic out of state travel.
• Physical transport of product for delivery or testing.

Accountability:

• Accountability: Responsible to follow all Stabilus procedures and technical guidelines as well as adhere to customer requirements.
• Impact of Errors: Poor application design or customer coordination can lead to loss of customer confidence, financial burden as well as product liability. Repetitive design changes drive cost associated with disruption to both P1 and P2 processes.
• Confidential Data: Yes. Has knowledge of customer/costing and all of Stabilus' designs.
