    Description

    As an Associate teacher, you will work closely with the Assistant Head of School for Early Child Education, Upper Grades Dean and other teacher colleagues to implement a differentiated approach to instruction that encourages student voice and creativity and acknowledges the need for lesson design with a variety of modalities of instruction and assessment. It is a ten-month position from August through June.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Undergraduate or graduate degree in elementary education or a related field required.
    • Proven excellence in use of Technology.
    • Successful experience planning and designing rigorous and equity-framed instruction with differentiated student assessment and learning curriculum and teaching
    • Sound understanding of the developmental characteristics for preschool and elementary aged students
    • Previous teaching experience
    • Excellent organizational and communication skills
    • Strong classroom and playground management skills
    • Successful experience in designing innovative and rigorous programs while showing a joy and commitment to the students' learning and social emotional experience.
    • Successful experience designing socio-emotional learning for children and exemplifying best practices in DEIJB framing
    • Successful experience in growth-mindedness, honesty, high standards and practice of empathy into one's own professional growth Duties include
      • Support the Lead Teacher in differentiated and personalized instruction
      • Lead one area of curriculum under the guidance of a Lead Teacher
      • Plan curriculum in partnership with and under the guidance of the Lead Teacher
      • Work a rotating schedule with start and end times ranging from 7:45am to 5:30pm, including an extended day from 7:45pm to 5:30pm two days per week. Duties will include assisting with afterschool care, carpool and other school needs.
      • Responsible for the safety and supervision of students in the classroom and in the playground
      • Must be present and responsive to the socio-emotional needs of students
      • Required to holistically understand their students' experience
      • May also support any of our co-curriculars (i.e. PE, Art, Science)
      • Serve as substitutes for other instructional positions on the St. James' campuses across all programs on a rotating schedule or a long-term assignment as needed.
      • Participate in professional development on cultural competencies and working collaboratively with peers, administrators, students and families.
      • Attending community events, including assisting with childcare: chapel, open houses, and evening/afternoon student program events and other school and community events as designated by the Head of School or designee. About St. James' Episcopal School
