    Senior Engineer (Civil /Roadway)

    A Day in the Life of a Senior Engineer (Civil /Roadway)

    You are at the forefront of brainstorming creative solutions for challenging projects. You lead, support, and mentor an interdisciplinary team to deliver multimodal transportation infrastructure in a wide range of contexts from roadway reconstructions and streetscapes in highly urban settings to signature trail projects in suburban and rural areas that highlight and enhance the natural environment. You use programs such as AutoCAD and/or MicroStation to fulfill production work on your projects. You will share your knowledge with staff and clients, to develop feasibility studies, concept plans, and construction documents, as well mentor your colleagues to ensure that our projects are consistently of the highest quality.

    You participate in business development pursuits in your home region as well as across our North American offices. Your job can sometimes be challenging, but you get to work with a close-knit team that is passionate about the work and the communities that you serve.

    Work Schedule for a Senior Engineer (Civil /Roadway):

    This full-time position typically works a flexible schedule of 40 hours a week. We also provide employees with the flexibility and necessary equipment to work from home 2-3 days per week. The Silver Spring office of Toole Design is conveniently located just a few blocks from the Silver Spring station on the Red line, and from multiple bus lines. The office is easily accessed on foot, by bicycle, and via transit.

    Requirements

    Qualifications of a Senior Engineer (Civil /Roadway):


    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in civil engineering


    • Professional engineering license


    • 10+ years of experience developing construction documents for roadways or highways


    • 2+ years of experience serving in a project or design management role


    • Experience preparing transportation and local agency permit documents


    • Proficiency in one or more of the following: MicroStation InRoads, MicroStation OpenRoads, AutoCAD Civil 3D


    • Experience coordinating utility, right-of-way, street lighting, traffic signals, and landscape and hardscape layout


    • Experience developing construction documents and cost estimates


    • Experience working on engineering projects in one or more of the following agencies: MDOT SHA, VDOT, DDOT, PennDOT is strongly preferred


    • Exposure to construction management is strongly preferred


    • Experience analyzing and designing stormwater infrastructure is a plus


    • Experience using stormwater design software such as HydroCAD or HydroFlow is a plus


    • Having a strong interest in multimodal and active transportation design is preferred
