- Explains concepts of new metering equipment to customers, management, engineering, computer, and technical personnel.
- Provides engineering and technical expertise to field forces engaged in carrying out approved electric metering programs and procedures.
- Oversees and participates in the test and evaluation of new meters and equipment and provides recommendations.
- Develops purchase specifications for electric meters, associated devices, test equipment and materials.
- Assesses technical competence of manufacturers and suppliers and recommends selection of same.
- Studies, analyzes, and recommends use of new concepts in the art of metering.
- Participates in the development of standardized test procedures and schedules for electric meters, associated metering devices, instrument transformers and test equipment in use.
- Designs and develops for approval standard metering-installation methods and procedures.
- Provides functional and/or on-site assistance, guidance and instruction in the analysis and resolution of incorrect metering of an unusual nature, such as that resulting from defective equipment, improper installation, incorrect application, etc.
- Provides engineering and technical expertise and counsel to other departments on the installation, operation and costs associated with meters and related equipment.
- Participates in the development of metering requirements and procedures and the design of metering systems for interconnecting companies, railroads, municipals, and sale for resale customers.
- Develops and conducts training programs associated with electric metering functions, including Time Merit Progression Programs for Eversource. Coordinates with the Training Department, when applicable, on scheduling of same.
- Participates in the test and evaluation of equipment, such as meter sockets, switches, breakers, and instrument transformer-metering facilities which are required to be provided by customers for metering installations.
- Provides work direction to lower-level technical personnel in the performance of above and similar duties.
- Extensive knowledge of principles of electric metering.
- Ability to analyze data and information pertaining to electric metering, determine facts and make decisions accordingly.
- Thorough knowledge of accounting and budget procedures and rate structures.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of state and national electric codes.
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with all levels of the organization and with counterparts in outside organizations.
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering is required.
- Master's degree preferred.
- Five (5) plus years related experience.

Description
The Senior Engineer, Meter Operations works on a variety of metering installations, including nonstandard, complex industrial and commercial, municipal, special contract, cogeneration, mandated load study and research metering installations. Establishes projects, designs installations, specifies equipment for and evaluates bids, orders equipment, schedules delivery, establishes requirements, coordinates and oversees installation, instructs, and trains staff and/or area metering personnel in test and installation of equipment. Plans, develops, and participates in the implementation of standardized and specialized policies, procedures, programs, specifications, methods, testing and requirements for electric metering on the Eversource System. Provides engineering and technical expertise to others.
This is a hybrid role. The first three months are fulltime in the office.
