    Description

    General Manager Job Description:

    The General Manager works on site at our warehouse Portland, CT, leading daily operations, and working closely with the company owners across all aspects of the company. They are responsible for overseeing the major daily activities for the company; purchasing, fabricating and shipping kits while also working to continuously improve the systems in place around these activities.

    Responsibilities:

    1. Daily management of shop and warehouse activities:
    2. All aspects related to the fulfillment and shipping of greenhouse and high tunnel kits:
    3. Fabrication of parts: cutting, drilling, bending, and punching galvanized steel tubing for standard and custom orders.
    4. Picking and packing orders for greenhouse kits, including custom crating for shipping;
    5. Loading crated greenhouse kits onto customer vehicles or third party trucks for shipping;
    6. Boxing, kitting, labeling, and maintaining inventory of small parts and hardware.
    7. Picking and packing small orders to be shipped via UPS or LTL freight. Creating shipping labels and maintaining proper records for all outgoing packages and shipments;
    8. Receiving activities: unloading trucks, checking orders against PO's, organizing and putting away new inventory, entering products in to inventory tracking system
    9. Ongoing maintenance of – and troubleshooting any issues that may arise with – shop equipment and machinery: forklifts, drill presses, ironworker, tube benders, punches, and other small tools;
    10. Quality control on production and order fulfillment.
    11. Customer service, including greeting customers and completing all tasks related to on walk-in sales & order pick ups (answering questions, creating invoices, retrieving requested items, loading orders into customer vehicles, taking payments, completing all necessary recordkeeping)
    12. Managing and updating inventory systems with Sales Orders and other daily changes.
    13. Creating Purchase Orders and interfacing with vendors.
    14. Recruiting, hiring, training and terminating if necessary shop staff.
    15. Opening and closing procedures at the beginning and end of each work day.
    16. Overseeing and maintaining a safe and orderly fabrication and warehouse environment.
    17. Maintaining a working knowledge of greenhouse kit design and all component parts.
    18. Updating existing systems and designing improvements for fabrication and shipping in collaboration with company owners.
    19. Leading the installation of new equipment, reorganization of existing systems, or development of new processes as required.
    20. Additional duties not enumerated here as assigned.

    Requirements:

    1. Bachelor's degree or college diploma from an accredited college/university in a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    2. Minimum of 4 to 6 years' experience managing/supervising staff.
    3. Experience in a manufacturing environment and familiarity with tools and equipment such as (but not limited to): forklifts, metal cold cut saws, drill presses, mandril punches, roll benders, draw benders, horizontal band saws, hand tools and ironworkers.
    4. Experience with customer service, retail, and inventory management
    5. High level of competency with: Google Workspace, Excel, and web based applications.
    6. Forklift experience and certification.
