    MHI Ship Repair & Services is a major marine repair and conversion contractor serving the U.S. Navy, Military Sealift Command, Maritime Administration and Commercial ship owners and operators worldwide. Our shipyard is conveniently located in the Mid-Atlantic region at the port of Hampton Roads, Norfolk Virginia.

    JOB SUMMARY: Estimators are responsible for the development and accuracy of all parts of an estimate to include labor, materials (both Defined and Consumable), and services (including subcontractor efforts) as well as ensuring the completeness and accuracy of the bid file.

    This position will be required to develop estimates for work items involving all shipyard trades and will serve as the subject matter expert for electrical estimates within the estimating department.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Review bid specifications, develop and submit bidder's questions to the customer.
    • Review the specification package and develop the initial drawing request for missing drawings/documents.
    • Develops and solicit sub-contracting list including both turnkey, specialty and sub-contract support requirements.
    • Develops a complete bill of materials by item.
    • Independently develops labor estimates for all MHI capable work items to support internal make/buy decisions and to validate potential subcontractor quotes. May involve requesting estimates from trades as well as an independent estimate and use of other standards to complete estimating package.
    • Completed package including supporting data for all labor, material and proposed/potential subcontracting efforts are provided to the Estimating Manager.
    • Support bid reviews
    • Conducts ship checks as needed to scope work.
    • Support PMO & Contracts Department during negotiations with the customer as directed.
    • Coordinates with Program Office, Contracts Department, Project Managers and Advance Planning in developing and pricing MSMO/MACMO Packages.

    • Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • High School Diploma or Equivalent
    • 5 years' experience in the ship repair industry as a shipboard electrician or equivalent combination of Degree from Maritime institution and on the job experience.
    • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
    • PC skills (all MS Office Products)
    • Must have the ability to travel on occasion to include overseas.
