    JOB SUMMARYThis position will manage the Respiratory Care Department and assist in achieving department goals.

    Will manage the overall operations of the department, including supervising employees, managing schedules, performing technical procedures, providing quality assurance & staff development/education, and maintaining regulatory agency compliance.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESMANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIESProvide high quality respiratory care.
    Oversees daily shift operations and staff.
    Maintains records and documentation.
    Monitor outcomes as it adheres to department PI initiatives, clinical performance of the staff along with other internal/external.

    Plan organize and delegate activities as required for the safe, efficient and effective operation of departments/ programs including active participation with other hospital and leadership staff to accomplish this objectiveDevelop and oversees the implementation of policies, procedures, and standards that direct department/program operations.

    As required for department/program services, verify that policies, procedures, and standards are consistent with hospital, community and nationally recognized evidence based practice standards and regulatory requirements such as Medicare.

    Actively incorporate measures to obtain compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards and requirementsImplement effective recruitment and retention programs for areas of responsibility, taking action as necessary to provide an adequate level of qualified staffPromote professional growth, development and accountability in staff, students and colleaguesSupport diversity objectives of the organization in recruiting and promotion into leadership roles.

    Track and evaluate staff performance and individual development, holding staff accountable for achieving service expectations.

    Coach and mentor subordinate staff in order to improve their performance and expand responsibilitiesProvides therapy assessment and treatment in all levels of careDocuments patient assessment and treatment in a timely mannerRefers patients to other services/programs as neededProvides age-appropriate assessment and interventionSupport diversity objectives of the organization in recruiting and promotion into leadership roles.

    RESPIRATORY THERAPIST RESPONSIBILITIESParticipates in the treatment of all patients that fall in the above criteria and coordinates such participation with the PACU, the ER/Med Surg units, and the Intensive Care Unit/Step-down unit.


    Performs respiratory care procedures:
    administer medical gases, medication, and aerosols for therapeutic and diagnostic purposes and provide patient education.

    Follows written orders from physicians in administering drugs and medication to the cardiopulmonary system of patients, evaluate treatment provided and take appropriate action.

    Performs patient assessment and basic interpretation of arterial blood gases, pulmonary function testing and chest x-rays as indicated in Skills Check Off list.

    Provides expert respiratory advice and recommendations to physicians and other staff for population served.
    Communicates effectively with professional colleagues. Manages time effectively. Documents appropriately in the medical records and completes other documentation duties accurately and efficiently according to policies and procedures.
    Remains current in respiratory care through continuing education, participation in services, and review of journals.

    QualificationsREQUIREMENTSHigh School Diploma or GED RequiredBachelor's Degree required, preferred in Respiratory Therapy/Healthcare Administration/Management/Business 3+5 years supervisory experience.
    Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) required.
    Current Healthcare Provider CPR issued by the American Heart Association required.
    Active RRT State of Texas license required.
    Bilingual preferred but not requiredTwo (2) years hospital related experience required.

    Two (2) of the following are preferred: NRP, CPFT, RPFT, RPSGT, Asthma Certified EducatorTwo (2) years of critical care experience, preferred.

    EDUCATIONHigh School Diploma or GED RequiredBachelor's Degree required, preferred in Respiratory Therapy/Healthcare Administration/Management/Business CERTIFICATION, LICENSUREActive RRT State of Texas license requiredCertified Respiratory Therapist (CRT)KNOWLEDGE SKILS AND ABILITIESMust be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient served.

    Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development as it relates to the different life cycles. | Pediatric | Adolescent | Adult | Adult/Geriatric.

    The visual ability to monitor instruments, computers, and equipment, recognize alphanumeric characters, distinguish colors and observe physical characteristics are essential to this position.
