Our Company operates over 130 towboats on the Mississippi River System, Gulf-Intracoastal Waterway, and near-shore coastwise market. In addition, the Company controls over 1,000 dry cargo barges. The Company has additional offices in St Rose, LA, Lockport, LA and La Porte, TX. With over 1,500 vessel and shore-based employees, Marquette is the largest provider of independent towing services within the inland waterways. We are the only fully integrated fleet in the industry that can do what we do.

    Position Summary:

    The Communications & Social Media Manager will be responsible for developing and executing communication strategies and creating content that (i) enhances internal employee communications, (ii) fosters a positive community, through social media and other forums, that promotes Marquettes family culture and employee / company accomplishments, and (iii) positively reflects and promotes Marquettes brand and values.

    This role will be responsible for both internal communications (newsletter, internal community forum, etc.) and external communications (website content, social media content, etc.).

    This position will work closely with leadership and across Marquettes departments to identify communications opportunities and to source and develop appropriate content for various campaigns. This role will require an individual that enjoys working with a high-degree of autonomy/self-management. Success in this role will be determined by feedback on employee communications, employee engagement, fostering of a positive employee social media community, supporting employee recruitment efforts with strong communications collateral, and the professionalism of external facing social and traditional media exposures.

    Responsibilities:

    • Identifying opportunities to enhance Marquettes communications as part of formulating an overall communications plan.
    • Plan will include the development of a process that provides alignment on communication priorities and content sourcing efforts.
    • Re-design and re-launch of the Companys internal newsletter; manage the production of the newsletter going forward.
    • Responsible for managing content for Marquettes website.
    • Develop and execute a social media strategy, including current platforms, Facebook and LinkedIn, and additional platforms that would benefit Marquette based on your expertise.
    • tOversee the creation, collection and editing of video content to support Marquettes communications programs and social media community presence.
    • Aid Marquette in fully realizing and reinforcing our brand through our communications.
    • Assist leadership with drafting and development of internal communications (including written, presentations, and video).
    • Create style guides and outlines for all marketing and advertising.
    • Oversee employee and customer promotional products to ensure brand alignment.
    • Work closely with the Legal Department and assist with any media inquiries.
    • Serve as the point of contact for industry publications such as the Waterways Journal.
    • Measure the effectiveness and seek continuous improvement of communication strategies.
    • Foster a Marquette Family online presence through social media that enhances employee engagement. and provides a positive reflection of Marquettes employees and culture.

    Qualifications:

    • Genuine passion to support and engage Marquettes mariners.
    • Bachelor's Degree in Communications or related field preferred.
    • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal).
    • Proven social media experience.
    • Digital marketing experience (tech and social media savvy).
    • Experience developing and editing video content.
    • Able to work independently.
    • Creative and outside-the-box thinker.
    • Works well with others and enjoys collaboration.
    • Strong organization and planning skills.
