    This leadership role will focus on business development, building and maintaining client relationships across the company footprint to broaden the client's service offerings and grow the Water Resources discipline. The strategic vision for this discipline includes stormwater management, roadway hydraulics, erosion + sediment control, hydrologic + hydraulic modeling, wetlands + stream + coastal, floodplain management and watershed assessment and management. The position will also provide indirect oversight and management of the Water Resources staff and projects working through project managers as well as developing our staff and identifying top talent to support expansion.

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities

    • Oversight and leadership of the existing water resources discipline portfolio with strong managerial skills in the areas of traditional delivery and alternative delivery
    • Business development duties to help expand the discipline across and within the company footprint through the identification of new clients and pursuits including attendance at industry conferences and involvement in key state and national organizations.
    • Overall responsibility for maintaining and enhancing relationships with current clients to ensure high quality services are being delivered.
    • Corporate responsibility for longer term strategies including development of a strategic growth plan (GAP Plan) specific for the Water Resources Discipline inclusive of client, markets, and geographies working with the Transportation Design Discipline Lead, Transportation Practice Lead, Chief Strategic Officer, Regional and Engineering Operations Managers.
    • Strategic resource/capabilities planning, to include evaluation of talent needs including support for development of skills and capabilities of staff members.
      • Assess talent requirements and abilities across the company to ensure staff has deep and versatile skill sets to continue to provide quality services and deliverables well into the future
      • Mentor and partner with staff across the offices, support the development and implementation of career development plans to promote staff retention and growth
      • Support the Engineering Operations Managers in recruiting and hiring new staff as necessary
    • Assist Operations Managers with business planning, hours/revenue planning and forecasting, workshare and staff balancing as necessary
    • Will serve as QA/QC Lead when necessary, continue implementation of QMP plan for the discipline and ensure its application and consistency across the offices for all Transportation Water Resources project deliverables and products
    • Additional focus will include developing and maintaining a discipline plan for expectations of project delivery, client communications/coordination, management, and staffing/resource coordination
    • Contract management duties on key contracts, if necessary, to maintain and build new business across the company footprint

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
    • 20+ years of diversified technical experience in Transportation Water Resources
    • DC Professional Engineer (PE) license required; PE in additional markets highly desired (VA, MD)
    • Existing relationships with clients, as well as other local engineering firms, with the ability to provide exceptional client service
    • Active in professional organizations, preferably having served on committees or held positions of responsibility
    • Strong communication and time management skills with the ability to effectively oversee staff, projects and multiple priorities
    • Ability to travel as needed
