    Description

    IMPACT Family Counseling is a non-profit agency that provides various programs for the community. This job posting is for a Special Education Teacher at one of IMPACTs therapeutic day schools. The day school serves a small group of students from surrounding school districts who require social, emotional, behavioral, and academic support before returning to his/her home district.

    Requirements:

    • Master's Degree in Special Education is preferred, but candidates with a Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 5 years of experience will also be considered
    • Valid Special Education teaching certification in Alabama
    • Must pass a criminal background check
    • Experience working with students with special needs and challenging behaviors
    • Experience with Applied Behavior Analysis and behavior modification interventions
    • Team leadership experience
    • Ability to work collaboratively with other professionals and support staff
    • Experience in a full range of severity levels in student behaviors and service delivery models (particularly Autism)
    • Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in a fast-paced, high-intensive work environment
    • Strong organizational and time-management skills

    Responsibilities:

    • Review IEPs of new applicants to determine if the day school is the appropriate placement
    • Collaborate with other teachers, therapists, and professionals to provide comprehensive support to students
    • Provide instruction and support in various academics, life skills, and social/emotional areas
    • Monitor student progress and adjust instruction as needed
    • Supervise teacher assistants and support staff
    • Maintain accurate records and data tracking systems
    • Provide social skills training to students in such areas as anger management, social skills enhancement, conflict resolution, and appropriate peer interactions
    • Utilize positive behavioral supports, interventions, and develop positive individualized reward systems
    • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge
    • Use and maintain confidential information following state and federal law
    • Coordinate student-required assignments/ tasks with the case manager including assisting with the completion and submission of those items
    • Serves as a team member in determining student accommodations, referral, eligibility, placement, and individual program development
    • Participate in restraint training and participate in safe restraining of a student, if needed
    • Perform and model de-escalation techniques when an individual is exhibiting escalated and/or aggressive behavior toward himself/herself or staff

    The Ideal Candidate Will Have the Ability To:

    • Think strategically/analytically, translate plans into action, and exhibit excellent judgment
    • Be flexible in a changing environment
    • Effectively build, develop, and maintain strong relationships with a variety of stakeholders (e.g., students, teachers, administration, clinical team, families, and outside agencies)
    • Collect and utilize data to inform instruction, intervention, and acceleration (personalize the learning experience for all students)
    • Assess levels of student achievement including social-emotional development, effectively analyze test results, and prescribe actions for improvement

    Job Type: Full-time

    Salary: $50, $60,000.00 per year

    Experience:

    • Teaching: 5 years (Required)
    • Special education: 3 years (Preferred)

    License/Certification:

    • Special Education Certification (Preferred)
    • Teaching Certification (Required)
