    • Conduct and perform law enforcements, and terrorism and security functions in accordance with policies and procedures.
    • Provide field training to new officers concerning GPO directives, general orders and standard operating procedures.
    • Work independently, make decisions, plan operations, show job responsibility, and exercise initiative.
    • Respond to individuals who are disruptive or uncooperative.
    • Provide assistance at the scene of an accident. Direct employees during emergency situations.

    Requirements

    • You must be a current Career or Career Conditional GPO employee to apply.
    • Selectee must be able to obtain and maintain Secret Clearance.
    • TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must meet time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. Applicants must have served 1 year at the next lower grade level or equivalent grade level of federal service to qualify
    • The 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 covers the position. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
    • Applicant will work one of the two 12-hour shifts
    • Firearms requirement: This is a law enforcement position that is mandatory for officers to carry and maintain bi-annual proficiency with the firearm.
    • Applicant must possess and maintain a valid State or District of Columbia Driver's license.
    • Must have previously obtained a passing Physical Fitness Test (PFT), Psychological Evaluation and Physical (medical examination) before appointment.
    • Applicant must have passed or pass a job sanctioned and validated psychological examination prior to appointment.
    • Applicants may have passed a medical examination prior to appointment.
    • Applicant is considered mission essential.
    • Applicant will be subject to an Access National Check with written Inquiry (ANACI) and must be able to obtain and maintain access/eligibility to classified information.
    • Annual Medical Examinations. Bargaining unit employees must complete a medical examination on annual basis to certify their continued medical ability to perform the functional requirements of the position.
    • Applicant must have a working knowledge and be able to oversee the immediate initiation and implementation of GPO's Emergency Notification Systems: VoIP, Fire Board, Big Voice, Net Presenter, and Everbridge.
    • Applicant must review reports including loss, theft, incident, attendance, activity, assignment, fire, and inventory reports to ensure they are free of grammatical and format errors and can be easily read.

    To qualify for the Lead Police Officer, PQ , you must meet the following requirements:

    To minimally qualify for the PQ-06 level, you must meet the following requirements:You must possess (1) year of specialized experience at the PQ-05 (or equivalent) level or higher.Specialized experience includes: experience in police operations, practices, and techniques. This experience must have included making arrests, protecting life and property, maintaining law and order, preventing crime, investigating accidents etc.

    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

    All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement (06/17/2024) to be considered.

    NOTE: The selectee for this position will be required to work various 12-hour Shifts-day or night shift.

    For a Secret Clearance:

    To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the GPO requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy; this position requires a Secret clearance. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully completed a background investigation for a Secret clearance. This review could include financial issues such as delinquency in the payment of debts, child support and/or tax obligations, as well as certain criminal offenses and illegal use or possession of drugs; this security process may take between 6 weeks to 12 months.

    GPO will conduct an interim security clearance, pending the completion of the full investigative requirements for the final Secret clearance. The interim security clearance will be granted based on the favorable completion of preliminary checks that are accomplished as part of the security clearance process. The Agency may rescind the tentative offer if the candidate is unable to obtain an interim clearance.
