    Job Description

    The YMCA READS Site Coordinator is responsible for supervising, coordinating, recruiting, retaining, and training volunteers for the YMCA READS tutoring program at a local Elementary School in Pensacola, Florida. YReads focuses on helping struggling readers with phonetics, sight word recognition, spelling, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. This after-school program serves students in grades K-4, managed on-site at elementary schools. Coordinators oversee a site assistant, volunteers, and 40 students (20 on Mondays and Wednesdays, 20 on Tuesdays and Thursdays).

    IMPORTANT RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Teach phonics, sight words, and reading comprehension to K-4 students in Title I elementary schools
    • Plan and execute daily lesson/mentoring plans and support volunteers/mentors in activities.
    • Manage program operations, literacy skills, volunteer engagement, and training.
    • Provide training on YMCA Reads curriculum, program implementation, and literacy best practices to staff and volunteers.
    • Coordinate volunteer recruitment and training for the program.
    • Establish relationships with the community and corporations to promote the program.
    • Organize events and activities to enhance volunteer/mentor retention and appreciation.
    • Create strategies for Family Nights and communication to foster family involvement in program goals and strengthen family bonds.
    • Build connections with school staff to collaborate on youth mentoring approaches.
    • Assist in budget preparation, ensuring operational compliance within approved budgets and maintaining accurate records.
    • Ensure compliance with governmental, YMCA, and organizational reporting requirements.
    • Maintain confidentiality of clients and staff.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Preferred Bachelor's degree in elementary education.
    • 1-2 years' experience in education, volunteer management, marketing, public relations, problem-solving, and mentoring.
