    Summary:


    The role of the certified nursing assistant (CNA) is to support nurses in attending to patients' daily activities and personal well-being. The CNA functions under the supervision of licensed nurses, adhering to hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.


    The responsibilities of this position go beyond those explicitly listed here. Each unit and job assignment is distinct and may encompass additional tasks specific to the unit, which will be covered during orientation. Duties may change based on organizational requirements.


    Responsibilities:


    • Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Demonstrates flexibility in approaches and methods to meet the diverse needs of patients across different age groups:
      • ☐ Neonate (birth - 28 days)
      • ☐ Infant (29 days - less than 1 year)
      • ☒ Pediatric/Child (1 year - 12 years)
      • ☒ Adolescent (12 years - 18 years)
      • ☒ Adult (18 years - 65 years)
      • ☒ Geriatric (over 65 years)
      • Incorporates cultural considerations in care provision.
      • Possesses knowledge of growth and developmental stages.
      • Considers life changes and their impact on health beliefs and behaviors.
      • Ensures necessary safety measures are implemented.
      • Shares information and involves family/caregiver in decision-making.

    • Contributes to health status assessments by:
      • Collecting essential subjective and objective data through observations and interviews as directed by RN/LPN.
      • Implementing required safety measures.
      • Furnishing information and involving family/caregiver in decision-making.
      • Documenting and reporting collected data.

    • Contributes to care plan development and nursing diagnosis establishment by:
      • Identifying and reporting key information and data on signs and symptoms to aid licensed nurses in problem identification and addressing needs.

    • Participates in direct patient care by:
      • Assisting with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and personal care, promoting self-care.
      • Providing comfort measures and emotional support to stable or predictable patients.
      • Assisting with basic maintenance and restorative nursing tasks.
      • Observing or sitting with patients as needed.
      • Creating a safe and healthy environment.
      • Documenting completion of assigned activities and patient responses.
      • Seeking guidance when necessary.
      • Performing technical aspects of patient care following established policies and procedures.
      • Effective management of medication transfer as per policy.

    • Contributes to care evaluation by:
      • Documenting and communicating patient responses.
      • Assisting in data collection.

    • Executes all duties required of a CNA by the Medical Surgical Department's scope of practice, addressing each patient's unique needs, including age-related considerations.

    • Undertakes any other necessary duties and responsibilities.
      • Maintains confidentiality as per policy.
      • Engages in ongoing educational opportunities both on-unit and hospital-wide, in-person or online.
      • Actively participates in unit and department activities and meetings.
      • Demonstrates flexibility and reliability in meeting department and hospital scheduling demands.
      • Willingness to assist across different units as required.
      • Takes on preceptor role for new staff assignments.

      Work hours will vary based on patient census and workload. Flexibility is required for after-hours and weekend shifts when needed.

      Job Requirements:


      The following criteria outline the expected knowledge, skills, minimum education, training, licensure, experience, and/or capabilities:


      EDUCATION:


      • Preferably GED or High School Diploma.

      CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:


      • Current certification as a Nurse Aide (CNA) from the State of Nebraska is mandatory.
      • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within one month of employment start date.
      • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification required within six months of employment start.

      EXPERIENCE:


      • Prior clinical experience is preferred.

      SKILLS:


      • Language proficiency in English, covering reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension.

      Other Certifications/Requirements


      • Must be at least 18 years old due to operation of mechanical lift equipment.
