    Founded in 1997 as a successor to the Colorado Hispanic Institute (CHI: , the Latino Research & Policy Center (LRPC) at the University of Colorado Denver (CU Denver) serves as a think tank, providing intellectual and strategic guidance focused on Latinx issues in health, education, and immigration. Since its inception, the Center's research program has been built on a social action research model, with the idea that scholarly research should positively impact the community it studies and not simply as an abstract academic exercise. This action research orientation remains a defining feature of the LRPC's work. The LRPC leads multidisciplinary teams to produce high-quality research that is vital to the health and wellness of Latinx communities. The LRPC provides support for research, community engagement, scholarly production, and grant writing in collaboration with Latinx faculty, staff, students, and community.

    Responsibilities and Essential Duties

    Research Leadership

    • Develop and lead the LRPC's research agenda, including the pursuit of external funding.
    • Create and coordinate small- and large-scale research teams for the LRPC.
    • Convene scholars from across disciplines to develop research projects and grant proposals.
    • Develop institutional review board (IRB) applications to ensure compliance with research policies and procedures.
    • Lead research teams to complete project deliverables on time and within budgets.
    • Prepare project documentation and research reports, including reports to research sponsors.
    • Prepare scholarly publications based on and reflecting research team results.
    • Collaborate with LRPC community engagement manager and university communications personnel to effectively disseminate research findings to diverse and broad audiences.

    Administrative Leadership

    • Create conditions for the LRPC to fulfill its mission and vision.
    • Oversee daily operations of the LRPC, providing executive direction for program strategies and efficiencies, compliance, and quality assurance.
    • Identify and address staffing requirements for efficient operations and maintain a strong work culture that attracts and retains staff.
    • Ensure compliance of the LRPC and its staff with university policies and regulations.
    • Demonstrate adaptive and effective communications suitable for a wide range of audiences.

    Community Building and Engagement

    • Increase awareness of the LRPC by being the main spokesperson and liaison with media, community leaders, and supporters of the Center.
    • Act as an ambassador of the LRPC to external audiences.
    • Build and communicate LRPC identity as a policy, research, and community resource.
    • Implement high-impact and high-visibility programs aligned with the organization's mission.

    Fundraising and Resource Acquisition

    • Create conditions to ensure the financial success of the LRPC.
    • Develop an actionable plan for fundraising.
    • Cultivate relationships with foundations and donors.
    • Collaborate with faculty and staff to identify and apply to funding sources.
    • Meet fundraising goals by securing financial support from foundations, corporations, and individual donors.

    Financial Management

    • Develop, oversee, manage, and report on the LRPC budget.
    • Administer completed contracts including management of financial terms, compliance, invoicing, monitoring of milestones, termination, and renegotiation.

    This position requires a presence on site. Provisions for remote work arrangements can be made, as necessary.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Doctoral or equivalent terminal degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
    • Five (5) years of experience in securing external research funding with a robust history of academic publications.
    • Five (5) years of experience developing and leading interdisciplinary research teams and community partnerships related to Latinx communities.
    • A proven track record of effectively overseeing and collaborating with staff members.

    Required: Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience working in higher education and sponsored research budget and finances. This includes budgets, cash flow, income statements, and balance statements.
    • Experience in developing funding proposals, including adherence to sponsor guidelines and solicitation requirements and managing externally sponsored research projects.
    • Experience leading a research center.
    • Proven effective experience in fundraising (grants and gifts), including engaging in development activities.
    • Experience in public relations.
    • Experience with brand development and management.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Proficiency in conducting research on Latinx communities, policy issues, and socio-economic trends.
    • Strong analytical skills to assess the impact of policies on Latinx populations.
    • Ability to lead and manage a team of researchers and policy analysts effectively.
    • Skill in interpreting data and statistics related to Latinx demographics and policy outcomes.
    • Understanding of diverse Latino cultures and the ability to work with multicultural teams.
    • Capability to develop and implement research and policy strategies.
    • Experience in advocating for policies that benefit Latinx communities.
    • Produce well-structured reports and policy briefs for various stakeholders.
    • Effective communication skills for presenting research findings to diverse audiences.
    • A deep passion for promoting the well-being of Latinx communities.
    • Commitment to ethical research practices and advocacy.

    Salary and Benefits

    The salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established at $134,102 – $139,500.

    The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

    The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

    This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
