    Job DescriptionDescription:

    Established in the Blue Ridge foothills of North Carolina in 1963, Leonard Buildings and Truck Accessories is a manufacturer and distributor whose product lines include storage buildings, cargo and utility trailers, truck covers, truck and van accessories, carports, playhouses, chicken coops, and dog houses. We serve our residential, commercial, fleet, and government customers through our 150+ retail store locations in eighteen states, supported by our corporate offices (in Mount Airy, NC, and Cobden, IL), distribution centers, and strategically located manufacturing facilities.

    Job Summary:

    The Carpenter, Roofing Lead position is based at the Leonard Cobden, IL Plant, with operations in the U.S. and has overall responsibility for roofing projects, leading a team of carpenters, ensuring quality craftsmanship, and maintaining a safe work environment in a shed buildings and truck accessories company. This position reports directly to the Plant Manager and does not have direct reports.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Collaborates with project managers and contractors to plan roofing projects, including material estimation, scheduling, and resource allocation.
    • Leads roofing installation, repair, and maintenance projects, including shingle, metal, and flat roof systems, ensuring adherence to manufacturer specifications and industry standards.
    • Supervises and coordinate the activities of roofing crews, assigning tasks, providing training, and ensuring that work is performed safely and efficiently.
    • Conducts inspections of completed roofing work to ensure quality craftsmanship, proper installation techniques, and compliance with building codes and safety regulations.
    • Enforces safety protocols and guidelines on the job site, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), ladder safety, fall protection, and tool safety, to prevent accidents and injuries.
    • Coordinates the delivery and storage of roofing materials, ensuring that materials are handled and used safely and efficiently.
    • Interacts with customers to address questions, concerns, and requests related to roofing projects, providing excellent customer service and resolving issues promptly.
    • Identifies and resolve roofing-related issues and challenges that may arise during project execution, implementing effective solutions to keep projects on track.
    • Maintains accurate records of project progress, including daily logs, inspection reports, and change orders, to ensure transparency and accountability.
    • Identifies opportunities for process improvement and efficiency gains in roofing operations, implementing best practices and lessons learned from previous projects.

    Requirements:

    Competencies (skills, knowledge, and abilities):

    • Must be able to PASS a drug screen.
    • Strong leadership skills and the ability to motivate and supervise a team of painting and trim carpenters, while fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
    • Proficiency in using hand and power tools, measuring instruments, and carpentry equipment to perform precise cuts, installations, and finish work.
    • Knowledge of painting materials, finishes, and application methods, as well as familiarity with building codes, standards, and safety regulations related to painting and construction.
    • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail, with the ability to interpret project plans, specifications, and instructions accurately and effectively.
    • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation, as well as the flexibility to travel to job sites as needed.

    Education/Experience Requirements:

    • High school diploma or equivalent. Trade school certification or apprenticeship in carpentry or roofing is preferred.
    • Minimum of 1+ years of experience in carpentry, with a focus on roofing installation, repair, and maintenance.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Capability to lift and carry heavy roofing materials, equipment, and tools, which may weigh up to 50 pounds or more.
    • Ability to ascend and descend ladders, scaffolding, and roofs safely, often at considerable heights, while carrying materials and equipment.
    • Bending and Stooping: Flexibility to bend, stoop, and kneel repeatedly to access roofing surfaces and perform tasks such as shingle installation and repair.
    • Stamina to stand and walk for extended periods while supervising roofing projects and overseeing crew members.
    • Skill in using hand and power tools effectively, including hammers, nail guns, saws, and drills, to complete roofing tasks with precision.
    • Capacity to maintain balance and stability while working on sloped or uneven surfaces, roofs, and scaffolding.
    • Ability to withstand exposure to various weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and wind, while performing outdoor roofing work.
    • Clear verbal communication skills to effectively convey instructions, provide feedback, and coordinate with team members on the job site.
