    Description


    Jensen Construction Company has been in business since 1912 and is the oldest operating subsidiary of the Rasmussen Group specializing in bridge building, heavy construction and marine contracts.

    It has always been a privately held company and is owned, operated, and managed by the fourth generation of Jensen family members.

    The company is a heavy highway contractor that does most of its work in the public sector, with a primary emphasis in bridge construction.

    Jensen Construction Company is based in the Midwest and has completed projects all over the United States.

    Position Overview


    The role of the Diesel Mechanic is to repair and maintain all equipment, Loaders, Excavators, Cranes, diesel engines and associated items in proper and safe working condition.

    There will be periodic travel required.

    Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)


    • Correctly services and repairs all equipment, and associated items independently. Correctly implements the Company's preventative maintenance programs and follows all service schedules.
    • Personally, inspects plants, vehicles, and equipment for proper operation and condition.
    • Properly "trouble-shoots" and diagnoses mechanical and operational problems.
    • Works effectively on gasoline or diesel engines, and all mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and/or electronic systems.
    • Accurately documents all service and repair work. Maintains complete repair and service reports and records.
    • Works safely. Follows all applicable Safety Programs and policies.
    • Knows and follows the Company's Purchasing Policy, and policies related to the care of its property.
    • Works proficiently in a team organization.
    • Works effectively under time and scheduling deadlines.
    • Must be professional, friendly, cooperative, positive, and courteous in manner and presentation.
    • Communicates clearly and effectively.

    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions; and extreme cold and/or heat.

    • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
    • Work schedule is Monday through Friday with weekend and some holiday and evening work required. Generally, 45+ hours per week.

    Education/Experience


    • High school diploma.
    • Preferred Class A or B Commercial Driver's License.
    Knowledge/Skill Requirements


    • Completed all applicable technical training courses available for the units typically worked on at this assignment.
    • Must be knowledgeable to do light welding.
    • Possesses an extensive, thorough, and demonstrable knowledge of interrelated operating systems including mechanics, pneumatics, hydraulics, electrical and electronics, gasoline and diesel engines, servicing schedules, lubricants, maintenance procedures, etc.,
    • Demonstrable knowledge with manufacture's source materials for parts, lubrication schedules, maintenance schedules, and proper repair procedures, including Internet-based sources and printed manuals.
    • Must be proficient at reading, understanding, speaking, writing, and using the English language.
    • Must be able to accurately perform basic mathematical functions including additions, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
    • Must possess working knowledge of the Company's policies and procedures, including detailed knowledge of safety, purchasing, and lockout/tagout procedures.
    Work Requirements


    • Must be at least 18 years in age or older.
    • Must have a current and valid driver's license.
    • 3+ years' experience in the maintenance, servicing, and repair of construction equipment and vehicles.

    • Must withstand continuous exposures to wind, dust, fumes, and noxious odors.
    • Must possess the strength, mobility, agility, and balance to walk unrestricted on uneven, unsure, and slippery surfaces without assistance.
    • Except for conventional corrective aids, must possess normal eyesight, depth of perception, field of vision, normal hearing, quick reaction time, unimpaired eye-hand coordination, and manual dexterity.
    • Must possess the strength, mobility, agility and balance to ascend access ladders and steps, and to maneuver on equipment and vehicles without assistance.
    • Required upper body strength to perform repetitive bending at the waist.
    • Must have ability to climb and dismount from a high vehicle cab.
    • Must have ability to lift up to 60-pounds.
    • Must possess enough strength to operate equipment controls and tools weighing up to 20-pounds for extended periods.
