    Description
    Duties * Serves as a Senior Researcher, Engineering Systems and Materials Division, Geotechnical and Structures Laboratory, U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center. * Assist the Division Chief in all current and future initiates.

    This includes providing technical advice of existing COE research and other Military and Civil Direct and Military and Civil Reimbursable funded research.

    * Assist the Division Chief in development of future research needs with the COE, Air Force, Army, Marines, DHS, and others.

    * Other expectations for this position include: interacting with HQ proponents; interacting with non
    • DOD program managers; interacting with other government agency proponents; interacting with the ERDC TD's, ATD's, and program managers.
    * Provide mentoring to lower graded scientists and engineers.

    Requirements Conditions of Employment * Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

    * This position requires pre-employment financial disclosure and annually thereafter in accordance with DoD Directive R.

    * This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.

    * This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time. * This is a Term position scheduled to last 13 Months. A term position may be extended to a maximum of six years depending upon the needs of management. * Term employment is subject to a one year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights. * This position requires the incumbent to work on an intermittent or unscheduled, on-call basis.

    Basic Requirement for Research Physical Scientist:
    A


    Degree:

    Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.

    OR B.


    Combination of Education and Experience:

    Courses equivalent to one of the majors, as shown in A above, that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

    In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

    Specialized Experience:

    One year of specialized experience which includes Developing and/or coordinating with technical leads on various project plans such as: construction, information technology implementation, or research; Monitoring program and/or project execution for construction, information technology, and/or research efforts; and Assisting the development and/or monitoring contracting actions.

    This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service DB-4 (GS-14).

    Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience aloneno substitution of education for experience is permitted.

    Grade Requirement:

    Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-14).

    All qualification requirements, including time after competitive appointment, must be met by the closing date of this announcement. This position is covered by the Science and Technology Laboratory Personnel Management Demonstration Project at the DB equivalent to GS-15). In accordance with the Federal Register Vol. 63, No.
