    The faculty member will work with the Program Director, Didactic Coordinator, PA faculty and staff, and UNE faculty to ensure that the educational environment demonstrates qualities needed to provide a superior medical education in accordance with ARC-PA standards.

    Responsibilities

    Duties involve collaboration with the Program Director and other faculty.

    As a principle faculty member, and in accordance with ARC-PA Standards, the PA faculty member has responsibility for:


    • Developing the mission statement of the program.
    • Selecting applicants for admission to the program.
    • Providing student instruction (all faculty must participate in didactic year curriculum).
    • Evaluating student performance.
    • Academic counseling of PA students.
    • Assuring the availability of remedial instruction.
    • Designing, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating curriculum.
    • Administering and evaluating the program.
    • Service to include Program, College and University committee membership.
    • Professional development in the area of research and scholarly activity.
    • Engage the medical community and Clinical Sites to provide specialty instruction and curriculum enhancement.
    • Participate in University and accreditation ongoing self-study and site visit activities in maintaining full program accreditation.
    • Participate in regular ongoing self-assessment and improvement efforts.
    • Represent the program at professional, medical, and other meetings.
    • Assume any other related duties necessary to develop and maintain an effective program
    • Other related duties as assigned.
    • Complete the University new employee orientation, sexual harassment and other required training within 30 days of the date of hire.
    • Understand and comply with the University Safety Manual.

    Supervision Given:
    Provides Close supervision of students associated with the Physician Assistant Program, as appropriate.

    Qualifications


    Knowledge, Education and Experience:

    • Graduation from an accredited PA program required. (If MD/DO an AAMC recognized allopathic or osteopathic medical school).
    • NCCPA Certified Physician Assistant (If MD/DO, certified by an ABMS or AOA approved specialty board).
    • Current licensure in Maine, or license eligible required for both PA and physicians.
    • Minimum of three years clinical experience as a physician assistant or physician preferred.
    • Excellent oral, written, and computer skills (proficiency in electronic communication, word processing, and accessing internet resources) required.
    • Knowledge of the roles, responsibilities and scope of practice of Physician Assistant profession required.

    Skills and Other Requirements:

    • Team-building, organization, and leadership skills.
    • Ability to network with outside organizations and facilities.
    • Collaborative spirit.
    • Ability to travel.

    Other Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Masters level degree from accredited PA program or other health related field preferred.
    • Doctoral degree or willingness to pursue same preferred.
    • Teaching and/or administrative experience in PA education or other health related field preferred.
    • Evidence of interest in research/scholarly activities preferred.
    • Active participation/leadership in local, regional, or national PA or other medical organizations preferred.
