    Overview:

    TRC is seeking one or more Civil/Environmental Engineers to support our engineering and environmental consulting practice in our Lowell orWaltham, MA offices. These entry-level career-oriented positions will provide design and construction services to a wide variety of clients. Our engineering staff provide design and technical support on challenging projects that typically include site design, earthworks, stormwater management, water resource management, coastal and inland dredging, submarine transmission cables for offshore wind projects, and state, local, or federal permitting.

    As a Civil/Environmental Engineer, the successful candidates will apply their existing knowledge and develop new skills while working as part of a dynamic and fast paced team. The successful candidates will have the opportunity to improve and develop their skills to assist clients in complying with various environmental regulations and address their design and permitting challenges by working with multi-disciplinary project teams to perform engineering analyses and to develop and implement plans, designs, and specifications.

    Responsibilities:
    • Working under supervision of project managers, engineering staff, permitting specialists and drafters to:
      • Prepare permit and construction-level civil/site design packages to support a wide variety of projects that comply with applicable state and federal regulations;
      • Conduct hydrologic analyses to support planning, development, permitting and design of stormwater management systems;
      • Design stormwater management systems adapted for specific development sectors in accordance with applicable local, state, or federal regulations;
      • Prepare engineering plans such as layout and materials plans, grading and drainage plans, soil erosion and sediment control plans; and detail sheets;
      • Prepare plans relation to submarine transmission and offshore wind projects;
      • Prepare well-written technical design reports, compliance reports and permit application packages;
      • Present project designs and applications at public meeting with various local, state and federal organizations; and
      • Prepare construction and industrial Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans.
    • Execute field work and contractor oversight to support the collection of environmental data and/or perform construction quality assurance.
    • Develop and apply strong Civil3D, technical writing, data management, organizational, and communication skills to projects and proposals.
    • Manage and execute tasks, assist with preparation and management of budgets, schedules, and invoicing.
    • Apply and document quality assurance and quality control procedures.
    • Ability to make decisions and perform as an independent thinker and leader, but also collaborate with project team personnel.
    • Work directly with clients professionally and display service-oriented attitude.
    • Advance career knowledge by attending continuing educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, participating in professional societies, etc.
    • Travel (typically 10 to 15%) throughout the US, primarily MA or RI.
    Qualifications:

    Basic Position Requirements:

    • 1-3 years experience with an environmental consulting firm;
    • Bachelor's degree in engineering (civil or environmental preferred);
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software;
    • Familiarity and ability to become fully proficient with AutoCAD Civil 3D surfaces, alignments, assemblies, corridors, grading tools, profiles, plan production tools, coordinate systems and earthwork volume calculations;
    • Familiarity with and ability to become fully proficient with HydroCAD stormwater modeling/hydrology software;
    • Experience with a variety of technical stormwater calculations such as drainage pipe sizing, outlet protection sizing, temporary and permanent stormwater best management practice sizing, and water quality calculations;
    • Experience with the development and implementation of technical plans, designs, and specifications;
    • Experience independently analyzing and interpreting data;
    • Basic familiarity with local, state, and federal level requirements for a variety of development types including State (MA or RI) stormwater permitting and town/city site plan review applications;
    • Experience preparing written technical reports; and
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

    Preferred Position Requirements:

    • Ability and interest in eventually obtaining Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification;
    • GIS software experience;
    • Experience in performing engineers opinion of probable cost estimates;
    • Experience developing Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasures (SPCC) Plans or Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP); and
    • Experience performing construction monitoring and oversight, including SWPPP/SESC site inspections.
