    Job Overview

    The Switchman position is a critical role that requires expertise in operating track switches, coupling and uncoupling cars, and placing cars to facilitate loading and unloading. This individual oversees the train, freight, and crew operations within the Transportation department.


    This cross-functional role performs various duties including installing and repairing railroad tracks on specified territories. The Switchman ensures compliance with Federal Railroad Association (FRA) rules and regulations while maintaining safety standards.



    Key Responsibilities


    • Operate track switches safely in yards and over roads;

    • Inspect equipment on cars using radio communications to control train movement;

    • Perform inspections, troubleshooting preventive maintenance for locomotive mechanical systems air equipment electrical systems diesel engine motors generators wheels air brakes wiring lighting systems other mechanical electrical components;
