    POSITION PURPOSE:


    Under the general supervision of the Director of Facilities, the Bus Operator Coordinator will oversee the operation of the Navarro College bus and vehicle fleet.

    The Coordinator will also be a member of the bus operator team and transport students, faculty and staff on a regular bases.


    GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    COORDINATOR Maintain all district owned vehicular equipment and develop and implement a maintenance program for such equipment. Oversee Department of Transportation (DOT) compliance/reporting as it relates to the fleet and bus operations.

    Maintain records of all permissible college drivers:
    current driver license, motor vehicle record reviews, defensive driving course attendance, DOT physicals and drug screenings. Develop, administer, and maintain an aggressive safety program. Direct all activities and functions within the transportation department. Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state requirements. Review qualifications of transportation department employee applicants and make recommendation for selection. Recommend efficient bus routes and time schedules. Develop and maintain outside vendor and service provider relationships.

    BUS OPERATOR Transport passengers safely to and from athletic events, field trips, and other off campus destinations obeying all traffic signs, signals and laws.

    Perform routine repetitive maintenance to a variety of vehicles and equipment such as changing of oil and filters, washing exteriors, cleaning interiors, and checking tires, brakes, belts, wipers, etc.

    for wear and replacing them, as necessary. Keep bus filled with fuel, oil, and other necessary fluids. Perform full pre-trip inspections of the vehicles prior to the beginning of each trip. Keep service logs and submit all paperwork in a timely manner. Secure bus when off campus. Perform other duties as assigned.


    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    Must have knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions. Must be able to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Must be able to bend, kneel, squat and twist safely. Must be able to maintain balance, climb and strongly grip objects. Must be able to be ambulatory and almost constantly sit while operating the bus.

    Ability to exercise independent judgment in making decisions in the absence of guidance from others and plan and carry out work assignments in situations where procedures have been established.

    Must have interpersonal skills and be able to effectively and courteously communicate with people of diverse backgrounds. Must have personality to effectively interact with traditional-age college students and still maintain control. Must have an avocation to sports to be able to effectively interact with athletic teams. Ability to give written and/or oral directions and supervise the performance of workers assigned to you.

    Basic knowledge and ability to perform maintenance on vehicles with internal combustion engines including air and oil filter changes, minor repairs and detailing of fleet.

    Ability to requisition, sore, record, safeguard and properly use equipment, materials, supplies and tools.


    POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

    Required:
    High School diploma or equivalent, or graduation from vocational school. Five (5) years' experience in the operation of a commercial motor vehicle. Must have a valid Texas Commercial Drivers' License (CDL) with air brake and passenger endorsements. Must provide documentation having taken a defensive Driving Course within the past six (6) months.


    WORKING CONDITIONS:
    Variances from regular working hours may be necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. Must be able to work variable shifts, irregular hours, and must be available for work on short notice. Busy working environment with numerous interruptions. Must be insurable through Navarro College auto insurance policy. Driving record for past three years will be reviewed. Must pass Department of Transportation (DOT) physical (medical) examination which includes a drug screen.


    SALARY:
    Commensurate with education and experience (This is a 12 month position to be paid over 12 months)
