At Amazon, a large portion of our business is driven by third-party Sellers who set their own prices. The Pricing team is seeking a Principal Applied Scientist with expertise in Text Classification and Large Language models to use state-of-the-art techniques to help Sellers offer Customers great prices.
Job responsibilities The Principal Applied Scientist will work closely with other scientists, machine learning experts, and economists to design and run experiments, research new algorithms, and find new ways to improve Seller Pricing to optimize the Customer experience. The Scientist will partner with technology and product leaders to solve business and technology problems using scientific approaches to build new services that surprise and delight our customers. An Applied Scientist at Amazon applies scientific principles to support significant invention, develops software code and are deeply involved in bringing their algorithms to production. They also work on cross-disciplinary efforts with other scientists within Amazon. The key strategic objectives for this role include:- Research, design, and implement state-of-the-art text classification algorithms and models to address real-world problems in the Pricing domain
- Work with large language models such as GPT-3, BERT, or similar architectures to build custom NLP solutions tailored to specific applications.
- Develop and optimize neural network architectures for text classification tasks, including fine-tuning pre-trained models to drive actions at scale to provide low prices and increased selection for customers
- Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in NLP and machine learning research, and integrate new techniques into our projects.
- Document research findings, develop technical reports, and contribute to patents or publications when applicable.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Ph.D. or Master's degree in Computer Science, Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning, or a related field.
- 10+ years of relevant, broad research experience after PhD degree or equivalent.
- Proven expertise in text classification techniques, including deep learning methods, feature engineering, and model evaluation.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and libraries like TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Hugging Face Transformers.
- A track record of conducting research in NLP, demonstrated by publications, projects, or contributions to the NLP community.
- Proven written and verbal communication skills to convey complicated processes and systems to business partners.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
15+ years of relevant experience.
- Experience in applying NLP techniques in e-commerce and/or Pricing domain
- Ability to deal with ambiguity and juggle competing priorities.
