- Strategize and develop the long-term technical landscape roadmap for Avalara business and corporate IT capabilities, ensuring it is updated and it furthers the strategic long-term plan
- Enhance the architectural capabilities at Avalara through defining efficient processes, leading technical, solution, and enterprise architects, while ensuring there are clear architectural roles and responsibilities

- Partner with leaders and coworkers across Avalara, building trusting relationships to ensure great partnerships across teams
- Lead architecture, design, and facilitate development of top priority programs in the company
- Lead the enterprise architecture direction of Avalara
- Guide the architecture review processes
- Foster and strengthen understanding and efficiency across Avalara's business and technical teams.
- Help grow and strengthen Avalara's business by improving its technology, processes, and people
- Shape the engineering culture of the organization in collaboration with multiple engineering teams
- Observe and own when you see something, you'll do something, you'll demonstrate curiosity
- You have a minimum of a 4-year technical degree in Computer Science or related field
- You excel in leading programs across organizational boundaries aimed at breaking through organizational inertia
- You have first-hand experience leading high impact teams
- You have 10+ years Experience of Enterprise Architecture frameworks and ability to develop a plan for how to do Enterprise Architecture at different companies
- You have deep empathy towards running a business, building out software projects, and the spectrum of problems in between to ensure your solutions and suggestions are pragmatic and adopted
- You enjoy using your hands-on experience working in corporate IT and Business Systems technologies, including Salesforce, Workday, ServiceNow and more.
- You have broad knowledge of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and its technologies
- You are up to date, while following the technologies and trends in software engineering
- You have 10+ years of architectural styles and design patterns
- Experience in data modeling, database design, and building applications at scale through service-oriented architectures, microservices and industry best practices
- You have the willingness and enthusiasm to challenge the status-quo with the knowledge to change it
- You have spent a significant amount of time in this technical field, typically 15+ years so you have had the opportunity to see a few things and do a few things
