    Description
    We are currently looking for a Certified Surgical Technologist for the Labor and Delivery & OB Educ.

    Under the direction of the Nurse Manager, the Surgical Tech assists the OR team in the scrub role during surgical/invasive procedures and assists in the preparation of the surgical suite area between cases.

    The Surgical Tech understands the principles of asepsis and basic instrumentation. He/she works under the direct supervision of the RN.

    Responsibilities:

    • Properly prepares items for flash sterilization.
    • Properly receives medication to the sterile field.
    • Properly identifies and handles sutures and needles.
    • Performs surgical counts (sponges, needles, others) per policy.
    • Demonstrates emergency sterilization and disinfection methods correctly.
    • Properly identifies, handles and counts instruments per established department policy.
    • Demonstrates the 4 C s of Commitment, Compassion, Competence and Communication.
    • Properly transfers patients to the OR table and assists with correct positioning for surgery.
    • Demonstrates knowledge of scrubbing skills in Obstetric procedures such as Cesarean Sections.
    • Complies with all risk reduction procedures to prevent a fire in the OR setting, including safety practices associated with Laser and electro-surgery.
    • Efficiently performs room preparation. Collects supplies, equipment and instrumentation as necessary for preparation of surgical cases as well as vaginal delivery cases.
    • Anticipates the surgeon s instrumentation and equipment needs during a case; anticipates when a case deviates from the normal and is able to promote a smooth transition.

    Qualifications:

    • High school diploma required; college degree preferred.
    • Completion of an accredited Certified Surgical Tech training program
    • Certified Surgical Tech by (NBSTSA) National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting
    • Basic Life Support Certification through the American Heart Association required.
    • Must have minimum one-year recent experience working as a Surgical Tech in an acute care hospital setting.
    • Excellent verbal communication, interpersonal and demonstrated writing skills.
    • Proven track record of compassionate care & superior service and a commitment to providing healthcare excellence always.
