- Meets certification requirements as established by the State Department of Education.
- Approved by the Special Education Section of the State Department.
- Degree from an accredited college or university.
- All USD 383 employees must pass a background check.
- Assesses difficulties of referred students through appropriate testing and diagnostic procedures and helps identify all types of exceptional children.
- Interprets diagnoses to school personnel, other concerned professionals, and parents.
- Makes recommendations on ways to facilitate a students learning and total adjustment.
- Participates in the decision-making process and placement of all types of exceptional children.
- Consults with parents, staff members, and mental health professionals.
- May conduct short term individual or group therapy for students.
- Serves as a resource person in the areas of learning and behavioral psychology.
- Acts as liaison between the school and the various community/state mental health agencies.
- Assist administrators, teachers, other school personnel, and parents/guardians in understanding and adhering to legislation and regulations relevant to general and special education services.
- Maintains clinical file(s) on all referred students.
- Other duties as assigned by administration.
