    SUMMARY/SCOPE:
    The Head Baseball Coachwill be required to teach, supervise, and correct all techniques, schemes forpractice and games.

    Oversees all aspects of the baseballprogram at Hardin-Simmons University including overseeing the upkeep of HunterField.

    Plan and organizein-season practice sessions.

    In addition, responsible for all coaching decisions during competition.




    HSU JOB FAMILY CLASSIFICATION INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING:





    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Oversees all aspects of running anNCAA Division III Baseball program. Recruitsqualified student-athletes for acceptance into Hardin-Simmons University withinguidelines set by the University. This includes identifying, evaluation,developing relationships, and initiating application submission.

    Develops and implementsa program which includes monitoring academic progress in addition to athleticperformance.

    Plan and organizein-season practice sessions. In addition, responsible for all coachingdecisions during competition.

    Demonstrates a workingknowledge of the American Southwest Conference, and University rules andregulations.

    Conducts program incompliance with ASC and NCAA rules and regulations.

    Sets realistic roles andresponsibilities of all assistant coaches in the program.

    Organizes camps andclinics to promote said sport, public interest, and community involvement withthe University.

    Plans all team travelincluding hotel reservations, ground transportation, and meal arrangements.


    Responsible for managingand monitoring the program budget under the direction of the Director ofAthletics including purchasing team uniforms and equipment.

    Directs conditioning ofplayers to achieve maximum athletic performance.

    Assesses player's skillsand assigns team positions.


    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Directly supervises one full-timeemployee, the Assistant Baseball Coach along with a Graduate Assistant/StudentWorker(s). Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with theorganization's policies and applicable laws.

    Responsibilities includeinterviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, anddirecting work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees;addressing complaints and resolving problems.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES (Language, Mathematical, Reasoning and Computer Skills):

    LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documentssuch as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and proceduremanuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Abilityto speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.


    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add and subtract two-digitnumbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to performthese operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume,and distance.


    REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common senseunderstanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oralinstructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concretevariables in standardized situations.


    COMPUTER SKILLS: To perform this jobsuccessfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software;Spreadsheet software; Payroll systems; Internet software; Contact Managementsystems and Order processing systems.


    EDUCATION/


    EXPERIENCE:

    Bachelor's degree from a four-year college oruniversity is required.

    Previous experience coaching baseball at the collegiateor high school level is preferred.

    Must be well organized, able to set priorities anddeal with matters in a tactful and highly confidential manner.

    Must be capable of working independently and withstudents in a supervisory role.

    Must have the ability to work under pressure and dealwith deadlines.

    Must be comfortable with multi-tasking, flexible withfluid situations and effective with changing priorities.

    Must have solid communication skills and stronginterpersonal skills are also required (emotionally intelligent).

    Must have a strong commitment to the values ofdiversity and human compassion.

    Must be committed to the personal development ofcollege students.

    Commitment to working in collaboration withconstituencies required.


    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
    Current CPR, AED, andFirst Aid certifications required (or must be obtained).

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
    This position is a Full-Time,Exempt Level Professional Staff position.

    A minimum of a 40-hourwork week is expected; times vary depending on practice schedules, gameschedules, etc.

    Candidate must be ableto work non-traditional hours, including nights and weekends depending on thetime of year. Specifically, late afternoon practices during season and varsitycompetitions are in the afternoons and on weekends.

    Work beyond a 40-hourweek is often required during peak season.


    Must have and maintain avalid Class C Driver's License and maintain a clear driving record to beinsurable under the university liability policy.

    Must be able to drive tocomplete work assignments on and off campus, as needed.

    Extensive travel isrequired during the season to travel to/from opposing team universities andtravel for recruiting is involved year-round.
