    Job Summary


    Director of Marketing and Communications coordinates and provides marketing leadership to the university community, serving both internal and external publics as directed by the Vice President for Advancement & Marketing.

    He/she is responsible for designing strategic plans, providing leadership and support while overseeing a team, developing, and enhancing institutional image and identity, and overseeing innovative constituent communication solutions, feedback, and marketing.

    Duties and Responsibilities
    Raise the visibility and improve the reputation of the University to internal and external publics.
    Improve overall internal culture and morale within the University by highlighting the success of its faculty, students, and staff.

    Ensure that all publications & communications properly support strategic marketing and communications efforts - fundraising, student recruitment and retention, alumni, and community - essential to sustaining the school's competitive position.

    Establish and maintain a high-profile presence for the University among professional communication organizations.

    Collaborate accordingly with the Director of Public Relations and Webmaster on external marketing and communications strategies, including development of publications.

    Design and implement a comprehensive strategic marketing and communications plan for dissemination and promotion opportunities that support the mission of the University, its strategic plan, and ongoing initiatives.

    Root the University strategic marketing and communications plan in research and nurture it through constant assessment and evaluation.
    Recommend policies and procedures, where needed, that enhance the overall visibility and image of the University.
    Promote institutional image definition and reputation, interpreting the University to its constituents.

    Forge an effective program of internal marketing and communication that is interactive, personal, and adaptive to enhance the ability of the internal constituents to be University ambassadors.

    Build out the University's Marketing and Communications department to support future goals and objectives of the University.

    Create a marketing and communications team that is equipped to support necessary digital marketing and communications components, including social media.

    Propose and manage the budget for the Marketing and Communications team.
    Supervise, recruit, train and evaluate Marketing and Communications staff.

    Contribute as an active member in appropriate area community organizations to extend the University's representation to senior administrative personnel in the Riverside community.

    Participate in professional meetings, workshops, and conventions as appropriate to enhance and maintain current knowledge base in field.
    Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Advancement and Marketing.

    Competency

    Incumbent will be able to translate goals/policies into operational plans and procedures through the administration of a university function.

    Will have latitude for independence of action within the function of the position and is directly accountable for accomplishment of the function.

    Ability to work as part of an energetic team. Must be able to interact with Business and other members of upper administration and outside community.

    Qualifications

    Education/Experience
    MA in Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, or related field. MA in Public Relations preferred.
    Minimum of ten plus years' experience in a similar position.
    Management and administration of departments is necessary.
    Thorough knowledge of graphic arts, journalism, and photojournalism.

    Language Ability

    Strong writing ability is essential. Must be a highly accurate proofreader. Must be able to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers. Ability to write marketing material and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to write for the web. Must have the ability to do market research.

    Math Ability

    Ability to do math to ensure that budget and billing records are accurate.

    Reasoning Ability
    Ability to exercise professional judgment in decisions regarding public relations and media responsibilities.
    Ability to supervise, plan and manage numerous concurrent projects.
    Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
    Global understanding of Branding Marketing PR.
    Ability to exercise professional judgment in decisions regarding public relations and media responsibilities.
    Ability to evaluate and integrate diverse projects to form a coherent whole.
    Effective in presenting ideas and concepts to groups for implementation.
    Ability to think quickly, conceptually, and creatively.
    Ability to assimilate information from a variety of sources, analyze information, and recommend courses of action to be taken.

    Computer Skills
    Basic understanding of website development and advertising.
    Ability to understand technical information.
    Knowledge of electronic media is desirable.

    To perform this job successfully, an individual should be competent in using Microsoft Office Suite. Competency in using InDesign and Photoshop, and web authorizing programs is highly desired.

    Certificates and Licenses

    Valid CA Driver License

    Supervisory Responsibilities
    Will supervise staff and student employees.
    Will coordinate the work of freelance professionals and work with printers.
    Demonstrated ability to work as a team leader and member.
    Proficient in supervising, planning, and managing projects.

    Annual Salary Wage Range:
    $66,560.00 to $74,000.00
