    Job Title: Crew Worker - Cemetery Operations

    Reports to: Crew Supervisor-Cemetery

    Department: Public Works

    Work Hours: 7:30 am 4:00 pm weekdays; every other weekend; some evenings, and holidays.

    Starting Salary: $19.10 Hourly (Non-Exempt)

    Purpose of Work:

    This position assists Decatur in managing growth while retaining character by creating a unique and comforting atmosphere for the City of Decaturs cemetery. Work involves the maintenance, beautification, and operation of the City cemetery through the performance of heavy manual tasks, the safe operation of specialized tools, light, and heavy equipment in the maintenance of burial plots and preparation of gravesites. Detailed assignments are given by and work is performed under the direct supervision of the Crew Supervisor.

    Major Responsibilities:
    • Performs cemetery grounds maintenance work using a variety of specialized tools, light and heavy equipment
    • Operate riding mowers and tractors to cut grass
    • Operate weed eaters and power trimmers to trim trees and shrubbery and clear areas around markers, trees, or other objects
    • Irrigate lawn, shrubbery, and plantings; rake and pick up leaves
    • Dig and close graves using backhoe, pick, and shovel; load, haul, and transport dirt from grave sites using dump truck; prepare forms and pour foundations for grave markers
    • Clean and maintain tools, equipment, and assigned vehicles
    • Fuel and lubricate equipment; sharpen blades and replace parts
    • Report any safety hazards or maintenance problems to the Crew Supervisor
    • Assist the public in finding graves
    • May serve as a lead worker
    • Perform work as needed or assigned.
    Minimum Qualifications & Physical Requirements:
    • HS Diploma or equivalent. Vocational or technical school training preferred.
    • Valid State of Georgia driver's license (Class C) with a satisfactory motor vehicle record (MVR).
    • Work experience in performing comparable duties with similar equipment and tools.
    • Ability to read and understand cemetery maps.
    • Knowledge, ability, and skill in the operation and maintenance of light and heavy equipment such as tractor, mower, backhoe, and dump truck, and hand and power tools.
    • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects lbs.), bend, squat, twist, crawl, and climb on a daily basis.
    • Ability to work in a variety of extreme weather conditions for extended periods of time.
    • Must be available for emergency call-in on weekends, evenings, and holidays.
