- Provides clinical consultation to patients, visitors, staff and students. Develops clear, concise educational content for patients, patient families/significant others and/or other healthcare personnel/staff. Evaluates patient needs and provides patient care.
- Educates the patient and/or patient's caregiver, other healthcare personnel, dietetic interns, medical residents, students and/or community representatives on diabetes and diabetes related topics, oral hypoglycemic agents, insulin including, but not limited to use, administration/injection, storage, and proper disposal, insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitors (CGM), nutrition, nutrition related topics and/or drug-nutrient interactions.
- Assists/participates in the planning, implementation and evaluation of the American Diabetes Association's Diabetes Self-Management Education Support (DSMES) Program. Utilizes quality improvement processes to evaluate the effectiveness of services provided.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Human Nutrition, medical Dietetics/Dietetics, or a closely related field such as Food Systems Management required. Master s degree preferred. Two (2) years of experience as a diabetes educator preferred. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Currently a Registered Dietitian (RD) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration required. Licensed as a Dietitian by the Alabama State Board of Examiners for Dietetics & Nutritionists required. Currently a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) or must be obtained within eighteen (18) months of employment.
