    The Role

    Reporting to the Sr. Director - Labor and Employee Relations, the Labor Relations Specialist will be responsible for assisting in the execution of the Labor Relations strategy across 6,500 employees and 17 collective bargaining agreements.

    The Labor Relations Specialist will proactively interact with and advise operations managers, HR partners, and regional leadership on a broad range of employment and labor relations matters. This role will be accountable for the successful, efficient, effective, implementation of labor relations processes and adherence to the union contract.

    This is a hybrid opportunity out of our Lenexa, KS or Chicago, IL office.

    Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee efforts for constructive union relationships
  • Respond to employee and union representative inquiries and maintain and process time-sensitive records
  • Provide proper contract administration within defined time limits
  • Interpret contract provisions under supervision and write grievance responses
  • Assist in collective bargaining and arbitration and participate in dispute resolution forums
  • Provide advice for labor and employee relations related matters to operations managers and HR partners to ensure the alignment of business and labor strategies
  • Recommend compensation adjustments according to benchmarks, utilizing the knowledge of market rates, wage incentive systems, and special compensation programs
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience in Employee and Labor Relations role supporting a union workforce
  • Thorough knowledge of employment principles, practices, and applicable regulations
  • Analytical skills to draw appropriate conclusions from data
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to handle conflict situations in a high-volume environment
  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resource or related field, or equivalent relevant work experience
  • 2+ years' experience in Labor /Employee Relations in a multi-contract, multi-union, complex environment highly preferred
  • Microsoft Excel experience
  • Dayforce HRIS and Payroll knowledge is a plus
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. Must have the executive presence to represent the HR function in internal and external leadership forums.
  • Demonstrated expertise building alignment on a cross-functional basis as well as conflict resolution.
  • Proven background in dealing with sensitive and timely employee and union issues and experience multiple ongoing projects
