Job Overview:
The Nutrition Clerk assists the department in the clerical aspects of preparation for patient meal service through accurate menu processing and assisting patients through room service using the hospital's computer software.
General Responsibilities:
Communicates menu selection with patients through answering the phone or visiting patients who need assistance
Inputs menu selection into the hospital computer system.Examines diet orders and menu choices to communicate with the patient appropriate food choices due to diet order.
Follow menu guidelines such as providing appropriate number of carbohydrates to diabetic patients, avoid menu items to patients with specific food allergies, and attention to other diet restriction details.
Provides direction to patient service attendants regarding patient menu choices for diets.
Opens and closes the nutrition care area for business.
Participates in training of new Dietary Office personnel.
Print computer report end of each day
.
Communicates directly with Nursing personnel and unit secretaries regarding changes and/or problems with patient orders.
Participates in the delivery and storage of nutrition tubefeeding formula and supplements.
Required Qualifications
High school graduate or equivalent.
Some knowledge of the nutrition field, beneficial, but can be learned on the job
Ability to communicate with patients, Food Services personnel, and Nursing staff with professionalism.
Ability to use a computer.
