    Position Summary

    MSU HR sponsors group benefit plans including health, prescription drug, and dental insurance for employees and retirees. Reporting to the Division Financial Officer, the Management Analyst will perform financial reporting, analysis, and budgeting for these numerous offerings. This employee will help the Finance and Benefits teams in HR reach their strategic priorities by providing insight into financial data including health insurance claims. This is a non-union position and is remote-friendly.

    What You'll Be Doing:
    • Produce financial calculations, models, dashboards, and analysis for data including insurance claims. Use these deliverables to assist Benefits and HR in strategic planning through a financial lens.
    • Lead budgeting initiatives for employee benefit plans by conducting cost reporting, financial analysis and rate forecasting in collaboration with internal stakeholders and external vendors/consultants.
    • Produce other financial analysis/reporting/modeling and statistical calculations as assigned by management in order to support decision-making in Benefits, HR, and collective bargaining.
    • Support HR financial operations for accounting, treasury, transaction reporting, trend analysis, procurement, budgeting, financial forecasting, and strategic planning.
    • Monitor, aggregate, and validate employee data including benefits claims/enrollment for purposes including measurement of financial impacts and actuarial valuation of OPEB (other post-employment benefit) liabilities.
    • Assist HR and MSU Controller with fiscal year-end financial close, internal and external audits.
    Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

    Knowledge or experience equivalent to completion of a four-year college degree program in finance, data science, business, accounting, human resources, or a related field; three to five years of progressive work experience in a position with relevant responsibilities; significant proficiency in Microsoft Excel, financial reporting, budgeting, data validation, and financial analysis; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Desired Qualifications

    Experience in administration or financial operations of group employee benefit plans including health, prescription, or dental insurance; technical knowledge of insurance, benefit funding mechanisms, governmental plans, or institutions of higher education; an organized, resourceful self-starter with consistent follow-though and attention to detail will thrive in this role.
