    Department Summary:

    The Model-Based Analytics Department (L144) in the Modeling and Analytics Innovation Center Division is seeking motivated and qualified applicants for two Group Lead positions - one for our MITRE Mclean, VA location and one for our MITRE Bedford, MA location, with direct reports that are geographically distributed who apply creative inter-disciplinary modeling and analytic approaches to sponsor problems.

    The Group Lead (GL) is: 1) a key technical leader on one or more projects; 2) the first-line supervisor and primary point of contact on HR matters for their direct reports; and 3) an active collaborative member of the department management team
    In performing these roles, the GL works with staff, work leaders, and L144 Department management to assign the right staff to tasks and projects based on the skills and capabilities required, while considering staff development needs and desired work
    As a direct supervisor, GLs also engage in performance management activities for their direct reports and serve as a coach and mentor
    GLs fulfill the critical role of advocating for their staff, facilitating their career journey, supporting their development needs, and growing the capability expertise within the department

    • Technical Leader - Actively contributes to a technical work program and develops high quality technical products resulting in successful customer outcomes
    • Department and Staff Engagement - Serves as a Direct Supervisor for assigned staff providing technical support, conducting regular performance and development conversations, advocating for staff, recognizing staff contributions, helping translate company-wide initiatives and directives to their impact on department staff, and communicating with work leads on performance
    • Technical Quality/Execution/Capability Development - Assists Department management and leadership team in workforce shaping, work program development, maintaining awareness of emerging technical issues and opportunities
    • Collaboration and Communications - Supports regular communication between staff and work leads, serves as a proactive liaison between staff and Department/upper management, seeks collaboration opportunities across portfolios, and facilitates open sharing of program and/or technical area knowledge with other managers and staff
    • Recruiting - Assist with the department's hiring process to hire employees to grow department capacity and capabilities
    • Department and Division Support - Supports Department and Division operations functions as requested by department manager
    Develops a deep understanding of Department and Division capabilities and seeks to pair the group's capabilities with those of other Division groups, to deliver solutions which incorporate multiple group capabilities
    Facilitates collaboration between staff engaged in similar work and with similar interests across the Division Basic Qualifications:


    • Strong internal technical stature and demonstrated technical depth in modeling and analysis, with BS in a quantitative field such as Data Science, Operations Research, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or other related technical discipline.
    • Experience and background in supporting the development and application of a variety of analytical and machine learning models to sponsor challenges; applying cutting edge tools and techniques to challenging problems facing our sponsors; and working on multiple projects in a dynamic atmosphere, with the ability to make a difference and impact outcomes with solid analysis.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, and effective working relationships with internal and external customers.
    • Experience with team management in a technical environment.
    • Strong desire for personnel leadership / management roles.
    • Strong desire to work with people.
    • Experience or familiarity with some of the following tools: programming languages (e.g., Python, SQL, PHP, SAS, R, MATLAB, Java, C++, C#); data visualization and dashboarding tools like Tableau, Mathematica, , Plotly, or PowerBI; and agent-based modeling tools like NetLogo, Repast or Mason.
    • Broad knowledge of MITRE's work, with the ability to make connections across programs and other technical centers.
    • Must be able to obtain a Secret clearance.
    • Requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 6 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 3 years' experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Advanced degree in Data Science, Operations Research, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or other related technical discipline.
    • Experience with building and shaping the work program.
    • Experience leading or conducting research.
    • Experience designing data science tasking and/or leading a team of data scientists.
    • Experience in modeling and analysis of complex adaptive systems, including socio-technical systems
