Job Description and Qualifications

Franklin Road Academy is seeking a Middle School Counselor with a collaborative spirit and strong communication and interpersonal skills. A strong knowledge base of current best practices in the field of counseling young learners is essential for this position. The strongest candidates will have experience as a school counselor and will hold a Bachelor's degree in school or professional counseling. Experience in an independent school setting is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain a comprehensive school counseling program that is preventative in design, developmental in implementation, and supports middle school students in the areas of academic achievement, conflict resolution, and personal and social development
• Listen to and provide counsel for students' and families' academic, social, or emotional concerns
• Designing and implementing ongoing parent education opportunities around current trends and topics affecting adolescent students
• Guides, coordinates and supports school staff in implementing division-wide advisory programs
• Work with students in one-on-one and small group formats to address social concerns
• Communicate efficiently and effectively with all members of the school community
• Assist the leadership team with student and community concerns
• Establish and maintain a strong network of local mental health professionals and agencies and assist families in obtaining services for their children through an appropriate referral and follow-up process.
• Assesses student needs and makes referrals to appropriate school resource personnel, social agencies, community agencies and alternative programs.
• Uses responsive counseling strategies to establish relationships and collaborate with educators, students, families, and community partners which reflect recognition of and respect for each individual.
• Intervenes during crisis situations and participates on school crisis team
