    TITLE:
    Principal - Elementary


    REPORTS TO:
    Superintendent

    POSITION SUMMARY

    This position manages and supervises the daily operations of an elementary school building to ensure the education process is meeting the needs of the students, parents, school board and superintendent.

    Establishes short and long range strategic plans consistent with district policy. Provides educational leadership to establish a climate conducive to learning, planning and program development.


    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Ability to work effectively with a Board of Education, community members, parents, teachers, and administrators.
    • Knowledge of organizational and management practices as applied to the analysis and evaluation of school programs,
    policies and operational needs.

    • Strong written and oral communication skills including public speaking experience.
    • Knowledge of effective instructional strategies for students with varied abilities.
    • Knowledge of pertinent federal, state, and local laws, policies, rules and regulations as it relates to school administration.
    • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
    1.

    Identifies and coordinates the educational needs of regular and special education programs to ensure maximum educational benefits.

    • Manages the design, development and delivery of curriculum.
    • Evaluates instructional programs to ensure student achievement and successful execution.
    • Maintains a positive working relationship with parents and act as a problem solver when concerns arise.
    • Manages financial and budget matter of the building.
    • Maintains relationships with parent teacher association (PTA) and other community organizations to ensure two way communications which
    foster parent and community involvement.

    • Identifies staff training needs to ensure effective school improvement programs and encourages professional growth of teachers.
    • Prepares reports, correspondence and other written materials for review by senior staff and the community at large.
    • Addresses behavioral issues until resolved in a satisfactory manner.
    • Develops an atmosphere of trust, respect, interest and enthusiasm within the school.
    • Complies with legal and regulatory requirement of the various governmental agencies.
    • Supervises the maintenance of the building ensuring a safe, clean, attractive and well-kept building.
    • Keeps abreast of new technologies and innovative techniques to ensure school is up to date and keeps relevant.
    • Delegates responsibility for effective class utilization but assumes final responsibility for the overall school program.
    • Adheres to the district health and safety policies.
    • Oversees inventory and property control and orders, distributes and records requests and losses.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor or other administrative staff.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES,


    OR REGISTRATIONS:


    This position requires a Master's degree from a four-year college or university in educational administration, educational leadership, secondary or elementary school curriculum or a related area.


    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
    This position has supervisory responsibilities.


    EXPERIENCE:


    This position requires a minimum of five to seven years of related experience in a classroom setting and three years of progressively responsible supervisory experience.

    52 weeks; salary commensurate with experience
