GENERAL SUMMARY

Nature's Sunshine seeks an Associate Research Scientist to join the Hughes Center's research and product development team. The candidate will contribute to dietary ingredient research and collaborate with scientists to perform bench-top research for product innovation. The candidate needs to understand cell culture, chemical and biochemical analyses, and formulation stages of product development. This person needs to work well with people throughout the organization and cross-functional teams within the Hughes Center team. Nature's Sunshine is known for its quality products and needs someone who can actively be part of the R&D team and contribute to product innovation. This person should be detail-oriented and will be supporting the products and teams with research. Quality is paramount, and we are equally obsessed with ensuring all products are scientifically supported.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Research dietary ingredients to support product formulation and development.
• Document substantiation to support product claims and content.
• Work with senior scientists to support bench-top research, including cell-based in vitro assays and chemical and biochemical profiling using analytical methods such as HPLC and LC-MS.
• Support the product development team in formulation and substantiation.
• Coordinate with all stakeholders on projects and assigned tasks.
• Ensures product communications and claims are scientifically substantiated.
• Coordinates resources across team disciplines and aligns with the project management process.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Basic understanding of scientific methods
• Ability to document and cite using a reference manager.
• Ability to work independently on research projects and seek training as needed.
• MS Office applications - primarily Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
• Strong attention to detail. Analytical. Highly organized. Excellent communication skills (written and verbal). Excellent time management skills.
• Ability to interact with cross-functional teams effectively and maintain accountability.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION

• Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline with hands-on research lab experience.
• Ability to review literature and interpret data accurately.
• Experience in the dietary supplement industry is preferred but not required.
