    Industrial Trade Services is seeking a highly skilled Iron Worker Helper to assist experienced iron workers in various tasks, including setup, fastening, signaling, and alignment of structural steel members.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Set up hoisting equipment, raise and place structural-steel members using basic rigging knowledge.
    • Fasten steel members to cable of hoist, using chain, cable or rope.
    • Signal worker operating hoisting equipment to lift and place steel members.
    • Guide member into position using tag line.
    • Pull, push or pry steel members into approximate position while member is supported by hoisting device.
    • Force members into final position, using turnbuckles, crowbars, jacks and hand tools.
    • Align bolt holes in steel member using drift pins or spud wrenches.
    • Verify vertical and horizontal alignment of members using plumb bob and level. Bolts align members to keep them in position until they can be permanently bolted or welded in place.
    • Cut and weld steel members to make alterations using oxyacetylene welding equipment and supplies.
    • Load, transport, unload material, tools, equipment and supplies.
    • Assist in lifting, positioning and securing of materials and work pieces during installation.
    • Perform minor maintenance or cleaning activities of tools and equipment.
    • Observe and comply with all safety and project rules, including wearing required personal safety equipment.

    Essential Skills and Qualifications:

    • Work within precise limits to standards of accuracy.
    • Apply shop mathematics to solve problems.
    • Plan work and select proper tools.
    • Compare and see differences in size, shape and form of lines, figures and objects.
    • Picture solid objects from drawings or diagrams.
    • Rate information using standards that can be measured or checked.

    • Talk and hear.
    • Sit; use hands and fingers to feel, handle or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
    • Stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
    • Lift or move up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.

    Requirements:

    A high school diploma or its equivalent with previous years of experience in the field or in a related area is preferred.

    Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field is required.

    This role relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.

    Works under immediate supervision.

    Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment.
