    Your Specific Responsibilities:


    This position is responsible for providing operational and procedural support to the Newborn Hearing Screening Program in the Division of Children's Medical Services, Bureau of Early Steps and Newborn Screening.

    The incumbent in this position must be able to work independently, must have the ability to organize and prioritize workload, be capable of ensuring continuity of work in the absence of supervision, and demonstrate sound judgment and initiative in the performance of these duties.

    Responsible for all first contact follow-up for newborns and infants who do not pass the newborn hearing screen.

    Make phone calls and send emails/letters/faxes to health care professionals and parents for newborns and infants who did not pass the newborn hearing screening.

    Enter hearing screening result into the data system and complete data system actions. Research current demographics for patients and update their records in the data system. Document correspondences in patient records.
    Manage, maintain, and distribute the Newborn Hearing Screening educational materials. Process requests from hospitals, audiologists, and other stakeholders. Mail requested materials. Maintain inventory of educational materials. Initiate purchase of materials, as needed.
    Answer incoming calls to the toll-free program telephone line. Document information provided by stakeholders in the data system and update records, as appropriate. Take messages and direct calls to the correct program staff. Check voicemails and returned missed calls.
    Process returned letters and faxes. Research current demographics for patients and providers and update their records in the data system. Resend letters and faxes, when possible. Document outcome of research.
    Lead and participate in continuous quality improvement activities related duties and responsibilities, as required.
    Participate in various workgroups, meetings and conferences related to newborn hearing screening or as assigned. Follow-up on actions related to these workgroups, meetings, and conferences.
    Perform other related administrative duties and responsibilities as required.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective verbal and written communication. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to schedule and coordinate assigned work responsibilities. Ability to work independently. Knowledge of office procedures. Knowledge of correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar usage.

    Knowledge of personal computers and software. Knowledge of hearing and hearing loss, and language and communication modalities preferred. Ability to handle telephone calls in a courteous and effective manner. Ability to read, understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Ability to organize and maintain filing systems. Ability to compose correspondence. Ability to determine work priorities and ensure completion of assignments. Ability to review work for accuracy and quality of content. Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.

    Qualifications:
    Bachelors degree

    (preferred)
    one (1) year professional experience or three (3) years of professional experience in a healthcare setting as described in the advertisement (application/resume must reflect this information to be considered)
    One (1) year professional experience which includes customer service, data system experience and answering office phones and providing detailed information to clients
    Ability to speak bilingual (English and Spanish) ( preferred)
